On the Horns of a Dilema

Normally, I can just make a decision pretty quick and live with the consequences. But I'm faced with one that's got no middle ground for compromise. So I thought I'd seek out some helpful suggestions from my fellow CPians. About three months ago, I purchased a pair of tickets for my wife and I to go see Neil Young and Crazy Horse perform here in Toronto. The two of us have really been looking forward to this concert and are huge fans. We have just discovered though that the night of the concert, just happens to be the same night as our youngest daughter's grade eight graduation ceremony. Too make matters worse, she is probably going to be winning several awards and plaques and within the next day or two, we will hear whether she has been selected to give the validictory speech. My selfish evil side says go to the concert and my doting father side says go to the graduation ceremony. Unhappily I can not do both. What say you guys and gals? I can't believe you have all missed the obvious; Move the grade 8 school graduation to the concert. Imagine Neil Young or Crazy Horse presenting the "Most improved speller" award to little Timothy and the "Star Pupil" award to your daughter. It will be crazy... horse... man! I don't know if it's common over there - but in this country it's possible to buy tickets on secondhand sites - what about trying to sell them? You should have enough time... Okay..so, who actually cares about 8th grade graduation? I mean I didnt give a crap when I was 13..I still had to go to high school the next year. Does your daughter even want to go? -dork
You raise a valid point. In this case though, I know my daughter is quite the 'keener' and academic achiever. She has even learned sign language because she wants to become a 'gorilla scientist' and continue the work of teaching gorillas to communicate with humans. This has become her life's work since she was six or seven. How many thirteen year old's plan their life this way? I'll be missing the concert :((:((, but her excitement and happiness :):) at graduation should make up for it. Hey, thats awesome that she is so excited about learning. I was totally like that too when I was 13 (still am, I guess..) I just know that I didnt like recieving awards because it was another chance for the kids to make fun of the "smart guy" for being a loser. Took me until college to not give dookie about that stuff..Kids are damn cruel. Thats awesome she can be proud of her achievements like that. You done good! hehe. -dork

I'd say go to the graduation, but theres a third choice... Give the tickets to someone and have them setup a live webcam. Take a portable computer and setup some wireless internet at the graduation. This way you can see the concert while looking like a good parent :) Matt Newman
