I've been using Microsoft Word since at least 1995. I was just attempting to do a Search / Replace and I (of course) hit Ctrl-F (find). Of course, Microsoft in there infinite wisdom has changed that to show some Navigate option thing which is useless (see this snapshot[^]). I'm not sure what the even does. Navigate on a word? What kind of garbage is that? Useless. Search / Replace: Nowhere To Be Found Where is search or search replace? Ctrl-F means FIND in almost every editor known to humans. :wtf: I literally couldn't find it on the Ribbon Bar, in the menus...nowhere. I finally had to search the web to find out how to search / replace[^]. They changed it to CTRL-H -- After 30 years of CTRL-F!?! :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: CTRL-H ??? CTRL-H!!! You Freaking Monsters Changed it to CTRL-H!!! I'm done!!

In MS Word: It shows all instances of your search word/phrase, without having to scroll through a 40 page document. I like it! Never really had to perform replace in MS Word before, so no comment there.

Thanks for the explanation of that. I was totally confused about it. Also, it's good to hear an alternative viewpoint. I'm just so shocked that CTRL-F is replaced. It's confusing to an old guy like me. :)

They're just mimicking Eclipse, which uses CTRL-H for it's search.

That totally makes sense now. Microsoft is following and old, crufty dis-used and bloated editor for it's example. Can you tell I don't like Eclipse? And, yes, I know you are joking.

Ctrl-F is usually standard for find Ctrl-H is usually standard for find and replace. Visual Studio for example, has been this way forever. If anything, MS should be doing the above in word.

Too be honest, it was confusing to me at first as well. Company pushed out the latest version of office and a lot had changed with little to no warning. Frustrating, I know. I just try to roll with the punches. Also, I am almost 50 myself, so not a spring chicken anymore.

Wait 'til you swap languages. Mappings for shortcut keys will change. If I do Ctrl-f I'll get Bold text. But best of all, formulas in Excel are translated. If I create an excel sheet in Swedish with formulas in it, I can't send it to you and expect it to work. <edit>Actually, it seems like I can. Well, no one uses Ctrl-H to backspace anymore, becuase because we always type perfectly. Since it is now available...

What do you mean, no one uses ^H anymore? Maybe not to backspace, but as a printable character to tell idio^H^H^H^H people what they really think.

Question: Has it changed or was it always like that? </edit>

I am not entirely sure that's true: Excel files open with german function names on a german system and french function names on a french system. The very same excel files. I never really understood the need of translating the function though...
