That's not even allowed over here. Only the government is allowed to handle guns, so army and police. Security is rarely armed over here. We do have shooting ranges, but I know very few people who've ever been there, one or two I think. I guess this is unimaginable to many Americans, but guns simply do not exist in daily life over here. I mean, of course they exist, but it's almost always illegal and criminal. In 2019, someone shot some people in a tram in Utrecht, near where I work. That's the closest I've ever been to guns. There was also a shooting at a mall about ten years ago, people still remember it, even if they've never been there. I think we've had one school shooting ever.

Not allowed in the US either - unless the private security company is licensed and bonded. I get the feeling that "honey" is referring to something all together different.

Maybe they didn't have guns back then, but he sure lived in violent times. Downright barbaric in fact.

People are allowed to organize militias in this country, fgs. At least in my state they are. Those militias can operate as an armed presence at part of an event where they are welcome. There is nothing illegal about that. Google orgs like Socialist Rifle Association and the John Brown Gun Club. We are talking about something different, clearly. Trouble is, I don't know what you're talking about.

Our second amendment was written specifically to allow us to overthrow our government if needed. Our freedoms are laid out in our Declaration of Independence (yes, the forgotten document) where it spells out that a free people have the fundamental right to replace their government at any time they feel they're being trampled on by said government. The second amendment is there to enforce that right.

Yes, two and a half centuries ago, in which time you've never used it other than to defend gun ownership, so that makes it totally relevant today

I'll stand corrected... ...my experience is limited. I don't attend events where armed militias are needed - they sound "unhealthy".

Respectfully, I would suggest that even if it was written with that intent, in the meantime said government bought a few tanks, airplanes, missiles, etc. while prohibiting the populace to buy any of them. Today your chance of "fighting the government" with guns is a bit less than zilch.
