Thanks, I mainly use it for home .net projects, storing my ~500 gb of music and hosting a couple of lightweight API's which are only used by me

I mean I don't know of any that don't have Windows pre-installed, but I haven't really looked. Although if the $169 one works, it's like the price of a windows license all in itself. I don't think you'll get it a whole lot cheaper without windows in that particular case.

The ACEMAGIC AM18 Mini PC shown on the same page comes without Windows, and is a lot cheaper. It probably has an AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS processor.

I just received a Geekom IT13, rated #4 in your list, and I'm trying to decide what to do with it. It's a bit more powerful than the full-sixed tower I7 machine I built a year ago, and about half the cost.

Very powerful indeed, but the downside is that it can get a bit noisy. A less powerful and more quiet model is the GEEKOM A7, here is a test with Windows 11 and Ubuntu: GEEKOM A7 Review: This AMD Ryzen 7040HS series mini PC hits the sweet spot - Liliputing[^]

I don't have a specific one to recommend. I was going to get one as a low end game machine at one point, so an AMD with something onboard that could run fallout 4. Last time i looked they were like $800 USD on amazon. But they have all kinds of different varieties, so tell me more about what you want to do with it and I'll dig up a few examples.

I am running 2 systems that host virtual machines. One is running ESXi from VMware (don't ask) and the other boots to a Debian 12.5 image or a Debian 11.5 (backup system), dual boot. Both systems are Dell Precision workstations, 5820 purchased on eBay. The latest one was less than $400, but no video. Both systems are 64GB Ram and multiple SSD's. Main system has NVME M.2 drives (3). Quiet for me but I am HOH. I have always had great luck on eBay. YMMV. I also host a web site and Plex server on Pi 5's. Just installed the M.2 Hat with 256 GB "drive", Debian 12, gave hdparm of 750+ MB/sec. Hat is $12, drive was about $40. I am a sucker for Pi stuff.

Hi all, I have an Intel NUC i5 5300 with 16gb RAM and a couple of SSD drives , it runs Debian Linux - I use it mainly for hosting my intranet site and any .NET (what was .NET core ) projects, I also use it to build Armbian images for my plethora of SBC boards. It's starting to show it's age and I would like to replace/supplement it with something newer. The absolute prequisite is that it's quiet and hopefully not too power hungry. Any suggestions peeps ?

So, a quick google search says this system is roughly 8 years old. Based on what you have posted, requirements: - quiet - storage - ram The cpu will be much faster by definition, you'll likely double your ram and ssd's have gotten larger and cheaper. So your focus should be on quiet. Go for a lower power cpu (less cooling == quiet). Maybe an NVME ssd? But you may want something else. Other than that, a higher end cooling fan. Don't know what your budget is, but from other comments $800 seems really high.

Everything is clean inside right? I'd look hard at the cooler, maybe re-do the paste on the cpu with a new cooler fan and see what happens.

Ace Magic...aren't these from some Chinese manufacturer that was caught preloading their systems with spyware a few months back? [Edit] Ah, [yes](https://www.tomshardware.com/desktops/mini-pcs/mini-pc-maker-ships-systems-with-factory-installed-spyware-acemagic-says-issue-was-contained-to-the-first-shipment)...

I have a Lenovo ThinkCentre M910q i5-6500T. 32GB of ram and 1TB NVMe in it. Quiet, small and not very power hungry.I have Arch installed on it and it runs beautifully.

A lot of the Beelink systems come with an M.2/NVMe drive, but also have a free standard SATA slot. Even 128GB is a ton of space for the OS and a few apps, and then I just throw in a spare SSD for bulk data. The insides for the Beelinks are very easy to get to.

yes, but like discussed in this message thread. mostly these will be wiped completely clean and afresh install of some Linux variant will be installed. So that should not be an issue for most people here.
