I'm curious about this from the point of view of recent comments on open source, offshore development, "M$", professionalism etc. If your skills as (primarily) a programmer are putting a roof over your head and food in your belly vote 5, if it's a hobby / course of study / pastime etc vote 1.

I support two teams: the Canucks and whoever is playing the Leafs!

I guess I have to say 4. Been coding for money since 93. As the years have gone on I have spent less time coding for a hobby and more time coding for work. It's to the point now, that I spend so much time working that I don't care to work with a pc when I don't have to. Luckily, I find my work fun and enjoyable, but I don't want to do it 24 hours a day anymore. A wife and kid will do that to you.

So what part of four boils down to the two choices that you either (5) make a living programming or (1) you don't? :-D If you don't make a living programming that would be a 1, if you do then that would be a 5. A 4 would be a reply to some other poll involving fuzzy logic or something.;) (So much for polls, I'm going back to work!):sigh:

I'm a Colorado fan, so Detriot (and Dallas sort of) is my enemy, by definition. Hasek's Cup *was* ours (Roy's stupid save.. grrr) Denver has the Rockies and the Nuggets (the Broncos can be good), so give us a break too. :-D The kindest thing you can do for a stupid person, and for the gene pool, is to let him expire of his own dumb choices.
