Which is your favorite programming language? And which is your least favorite?

Sounds proper. All the best assembly language programmers are paranoid-schizophrenics anyway. :-D

C & C++. Least Favorite: BASIC and PASCAL. I can't explain why I don't like Pascal, I simply don't, and subsequently haven't programmed in it for many, many years. BASIC is an ironic choice, because it's where I've made most of my living- and I have vastly more experience in it than anything else. Because I've been 'forced' to use it, I hate the weaknesses I'm forced to work around. Paul

Paul Watson wrote: Dislike intensely: Progress (first job used that, 500 reports to fix, you do the math) Ditto brother. The people who designed that language (and DBMS for that matter! *shit slow* on joins - at least back in '94), must've been a non programmer - because it's fucking impossible to program in it! 4GL - R.I.P! Inprogrammable programming languages designed by non-programmers. Totally worthless. -- Hell is from here to eternity.

I would've removed the CR expression language in favor for Java. :) C is really a neat language. So simple, but yet so powerful. -- Hell is from here to eternity.

Radoslav Bielik wrote: Favorites: used to be C++, now C# definitely I'm in the same boat. Until C# came along, C++ was it -- although I really appreciated Java's simplicity. Then C# came along and it added a lot of the features Java should have had, while keeping its simplicity, which I really come to appreciate. Now I find C++ to be an overly complex language. Sure, it's got some nifty features, like MI, macros, and templates, but I have barely missed them. Once we can finally get to use generics in C#, that'll be it: bye bye competition. :) Regards, Alvaro

Paul Watson wrote: Dislike intensely: Progress (first job used that, 500 reports to fix, you do the math) Progress isn't too bad. Ummm.... errrr.... OK it sucks! But every now and then when you have a painfully simple report or utility to do and you can write it from memory using a total of nine words it can be satisfying. All I've ever wanted was an honest week's pay for an honest day's work.

Of the languages I've actually used, C++ is my favorite, and PIC assembly language is my least favorite. Languages I dislike on general principles: Visual Basic*, Forth, APL, and COBOL. * Note: I like ordinary BASIC. Visual Basic reminds me of a mouse built to government specifications (visualize in your mind a hermaphroditic seven-legged two-headed rhinocerous with skin problems, and you get the idea). Weird languages I've used and liked at the time: LISP, VAX/VMS DCL, PDP-11 assembly language.

You didn't like Forth??? I always thought it was kind of a fun little language. You couldn't do much with it and MAN was it cryptic, but it was KIND of cool :) ...SteveH
