C & C++. Least Favorite: BASIC and PASCAL. I can't explain why I don't like Pascal, I simply don't, and subsequently haven't programmed in it for many, many years. BASIC is an ironic choice, because it's where I've made most of my living- and I have vastly more experience in it than anything else. Because I've been 'forced' to use it, I hate the weaknesses I'm forced to work around. Paul

I would've removed the CR expression language in favor for Java. :) C is really a neat language. So simple, but yet so powerful. -- Hell is from here to eternity.

Until C# came along, C++ was it -- although I really appreciated Java's simplicity. Then C# came along and it added a lot of the features Java should have had, while keeping its simplicity, which I really come to appreciate. Now I find C++ to be an overly complex language. Sure, it's got some nifty features, like MI, macros, and templates, but I have barely missed them. Once we can finally get to use generics in C#, that'll be it: bye bye competition. :) Regards, Alvaro

But every now and then when you have a painfully simple report or utility to do and you can write it from memory using a total of nine words it can be satisfying. All I've ever wanted was an honest week's pay for an honest day's work.

Of the languages I've actually used, C++ is my favorite, and PIC assembly language is my least favorite. Languages I dislike on general principles: Visual Basic*, Forth, APL, and COBOL. * Note: I like ordinary BASIC. Visual Basic reminds me of a mouse built to government specifications (visualize in your mind a hermaphroditic seven-legged two-headed rhinocerous with skin problems, and you get the idea). Weird languages I've used and liked at the time: LISP, VAX/VMS DCL, PDP-11 assembly language.

Favorites: Java, C#, Perl (Still learning, but I like it) Hated: Javascript, Visual Basic (original, not .NET) Most hated (And I mean DETESTED): IDL (Interactive Data Language) I had to do programming in this for a summer program last year (the Summer Science Program, if anyone cares), and we all despised it. The only opinion I've heard of it from actual programmers is "the bastard child of C and VB" - worst of both worlds. Matrix operations? Sure, they're there, it's a data-oriented language - but there are inconsistencies in how each operation handles both input and output (in terms of row-by-column or column-by-row)!!!
