I Just Tried Firefox

Hmm, with all the talk and praise about Mozilla Firefox I thought I would give it a try... First impression: What a shitty browser, and most websites look like crap when viewed with it, including codeproject X| Well, it might do some things better than IE (wonder what things) but as long as it renders pages the way it do, I wont waste any more time with it for now... Lets hope it get better in time... - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!" ShotKeeper, my Photo Album / Organizer Application[^]
but hey , they do follow the w3c standards sooo good. never mind what the defacto standard is in the real world. //Roger

That might be, but when things look like crap in it, I really don't care. And no, I'm not a web developer ;) (Only simple stuff when forced to it) - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!" ShotKeeper, my Photo Album / Organizer Application[^]

When posting a message the editboxes are not the same width, and the "toolbar" with the emoticons does not exactly look pretty either, as the spacing between the bitmaps are kinda large, so I have to scroll horz. to see them all. Ale the formatting buttons are missing. Might be minor stuff, but I think thats whats ruin the "browsing experience" ;) - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!" Anders Molin wrote: That might be, but when things look like crap in it, I really don't care I know what you mean. IE is much more tolerant of pages that don't exactly follow the standards. In fact the Halifax web site (which is where I do my share dealing) goes nut in FireFox. And the Royal Bank of Scotland web site will work with FireFox until you try and log into your accounts then it says that they only trust Netscape and Navigator and won't permit access for "security" reasons.

Ok After this discussion I installed ie2 (from firefox) and started using it. One complaint so far. I check google in the searches toolbar. But whenever I search it still turns up results from steadysearch. What on earth is steadysearch and why would I want it over google ?!:) \edit Ok looks like hitting enter sends it to steadysearch and using the search icon takes it to google. Still this doesn't look so impressive. \edit " Why oh why didn't I take the blue pill ? "

There's really not much different between the 2 browsers. It's mostly in the DHTML/javascript area which is why they haven't bothered to make the edit features work in FireFox. If it was just plain firefox I probably wouldn't use it, but the addins found here have made all the difference. Since I do a lot of web development, I use the development shortcut tool bar. Also, I'm addicted to gestures. It took a while to get used to them, but they are so much easier and faster then buttons or context menus. Also, the tabbed browsing thing is cool. I use that quite a bit. Though, I have to admit, that I do have to use the open in IE shortcut more often then I like. Also, since I've done web development for a while, I tend to look at sites that have poor cross browser as a weakness of the site rather then the browser.

I real prefer Slim Browser.[^] It's IE with tabbed browsed and ad blocking as well. I just turn off skins after I install it and it's fine. It's got very nice 'new URL' feature, where it opens up a new tab if a new URL is entered in. I've been using it for the last few months and I haven't had a problem with it other than a few popups here and there, in which AdAware likes to kill the whole browser. I don't care for Netscape or Mozilla/FireFox. And Opera is just a god-awful POS. I have found SlimBrowser a fine alternative to using multiple IE windows.
