+1 for Eclipse. I love it...despite the fact that I dislike Java.

Maybe its time Chris added another smiley for a :sneer: :) "One of the Georges," said Psmith, "I forget which, once said that a certain number of hours' sleep a day--I cannot recall for the moment how many--made a man something, which for the time being has slipped my memory."

IntelliJ rocks. Fast, affordable, light, supports refactoring, and has a very, very smart editor. OTOH some people seem to love Eclipse, if you have a very powerful machine, it can be a good alternative. Yes, even I am blogging now!

I second that. I miss the refactoring stuff in IntelliJ now that I've moved back to VS.NET. That stuff is addictive! -- Denn du bist, was du isst! Und ihr wisst, was es ist! Es ist mein Teil...?

Hi Daniel, I just gave IntelliJ a run and I must agree withh you. It is definitely a great product. I think I am going to recommend it to our management :) Thanks, Pankaj P.S: I am pretty sure they will ignore all our recommendations and end up with emacs in the end ;P /** I'm the one who's gonna have to die When it's time for me to die So let me live my life The way I want to - Jimi Hendrix */

IntelliJ is the best damn Java IDE I've ever used. You can quote me on that. :) I wish the CVS integration was a lot better though. Oh well, you can't have it all. At least there is Tortoise CVS and WinCVS to ease the pain. Good luck convincing the management! -- Denn du bist, was du isst! Und ihr wisst, was es ist! Es ist mein Teil...?

They did a VS.NET plugin named "Resharper", which is almost as good as Resharper, but it still has a few stability problems... Yes, even I am blogging now!

JCreator[^] and Netbeans[^] are both good IDEs. Signature under construction.

Renaming classes and methods, in/outlining methods, virtualizing methods, should not be impossible. Apparently Visual Slickedit (I think that was the name of the editor) has C++ refactoring tools. Had Java and .NET never been invented, we'd be seeing tons of cool C++ editors today. -- Denn du bist, was du isst! Und ihr wisst, was es ist! Es ist mein Teil...?

I haven't done a whole lot of Java work myself, but I have Eclipse and NetBeans, and they're both pretty good. I like Eclipse best because I studied its architecture and I know what's going on under the surface.
