Have you installed SP2?
-
Hi, I've just reinstalled my PC and now I want to have all perfect and to install all Windows updates possible. I heard something like "Do not install SP2 from my friends, I have read something about IBM which recommends do not installing of this sp, and so on and so on. In the end I read information on Wupdate pages, they write something like you will have to set something before you can use these (VS.NET 2003, MSDE) programs - I am a complete newbie in programming and using these programs - so, Have you had any problems with this and how did you solve them? Me, personally, I haven't installed any of Windows updates up to now and I was okay, and you?:)
I've got SP2 installed, and I have had no problems with VS.NET 2003 and MSDE or any programs for that matter. Signature under construction.

I'm in the process of building a new PC and once I have it built I'll be installing Windows XP with SP2 on it. As for my existing PCs, I'm going to see how it goes with the new one first (it should be problem free), but from what I can see all I will need to do is install updates the updates for Office, etc. I don't run much non-Microsoft software (FireFox and some dodgy RSS reader that I keep meaning to replace anyway)

Thanks a lot for your help, I will consider installing it, and I will let you know about the result :-) Main problem, before I reinstalled pc today, was that I wasn't able to write any my language's character (ěščřžýáíé) into web-textboxes like this one. Now it's okay as you see! Hurray: ěěěěěšššššššččččččččřřřřřřžžžžžžýýýýýýýýýááááááíííííééééééé!!!! (I mentioned it in ASP.NET forum yesterday, I don't know why it's possible, I don't want to know it.) I hope it will never occur again. Then I've got permanent DSL connection so I downloaded a lot of programs, viruses and ... Now I feel so relaxed, so well, so clean, and I like working with so clean computer, and you? And please answer me, any of you, do you have in Automatic actualisation window of WXP, do you have there something like "Service Pack 2" - me personally not, I only have a lot of other updates there, but SP2 not.

I have it here on my home PC running Win XP Home, but they pushed back the devlivery of SP2 through Windows Update for Win XP Pro. Rado

1. The firewall is horrible. First thing you should do is turn it off and set it to not remind you about it. The exceptions list DOES NOT work at all. It pretty much just blocks everything now matter how I configure it. Use ZoneAlarm or other equivalent. 2. Why is my system no longer branded as Professional? Not a big deal but the only way to know what you have is to look at the color of the loading bar. Prof = blue, Home = green. Please feel free to add to the list :)

I installed SP2 over a week ago, no problems with anything yet. (VS 2003, Office 2003 both run fine) During the setup process, it asks you if you want to save a backup copy of replaced files to an uninstall folder in case something bad happens. The update took about 25-30 minutes to complete on my machine. (PIII 533) I've already wiped all my uninstall folders so there's no going back for me now. I've never had a single problem with any update. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

www.eeeksoft.net | Photos | Fractal SnowYeah I was wondering about this funny nick too! :) Btw I just finished installing SP2 on my Win XP Home PC with no problems so far (aside from the fact that the installation took 45 minutes to complete). And the new firewall looks great, like a real firewall finally. :) I'll probably install it on my XP Pro in the office in the next week too. Rado

I have only installed on my XP Home PC at home and it was the first thing that I noticed that during the boot, it only says "Windows XP" not "Windows XP Home Edition" and the progress bar on the splash screen turned blue! It is no longer green. :wtf: Of course, the system properties dialog and the "Windows XP" screensaver both reveal what edition it is. Rado

Zdravim vsechny Cechy a Slovaky!!! And now rather in English :-) I have never met any Czech or Slovak here up to now. For an explanation of this odd username: I study at grammar school and I and my friend write web pages of our class. I don't know his reasons, but he make up this character and it became the "mascot" of our class. When I was looking for some components and controls I found this site. I didn't have any good idea for my nick so I write "chodicimrkev" :) At present I am working on the new webpages in asp.net (www.vilem.tk) and currently I had to reinstall pc. Question for Tomas Petricek (and others): I know, The Lounge isn't for technical questions, but ... How can I write one page, and the content of the page depends on the parametres in URL (as I saw on http://www.eeeksoft.net) Bye

I also didn't met lot of Czech or Slovak here.. maybe it would be nice, if it would be possible to search by nationality in who's who section). chodicimrkev wrote: I know, The Lounge isn't for technical questions, but ... No need to delete it, just remember that you'll get a lot of 1 votes and sacrastic answers if you ask a programming question as a new thread in the Lounge in future. :) Btw, if you're looking for ASP.NET resources, be sure to check http://www.asp.net[^] which is the official ASP.NET page. There are some forums too, but they're moderated and not as user-friendly as message boards here on CP. Rado
