"Florida businesses could soon face criminal charges if they try to stop employees from bringing guns to work in their cars" http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/florida/sfl-guns1002,0,4768146.story?coll=sfla-news-florida From a UK perspective, it is unbelievable that there could be a lobby to allow employees to bring guns into work and leave them in their locked vehicles!

Look man, don't go messing with my lunchtime sport hunting. Just down the road is a nice park with some swings, a merry go-round and a petting zoo. You expect me to drive home, fetch my semi-auto, drive all the way back, pop some lamas and then drive all the way back home to drop off my semi-auto and then come back to work all in one lousy 45 minute lunch break? ... On a saner note we had a chap come into work with a revolver once. He put it in his desk drawer and then during lunch brought it out to show us all. He thought we all liked guns. Instead we took him into the conference room and gave him a warning letter. He made it worse when he tried to explain it away by saying it was not even his gun, that it was not licensed and that he was taking it to the gun shop across the street to sell. Actually, that guy was a bit crazy. Smart chap but nuts. A few weeks after firing him we saw his wife standing outside our building on the pavement with two rifles (thankfully in their leather cases) waiting for him to pick her up. She was pregnant, it was getting dark and he was late. regards, Paul Watson South Africa Colib and ilikecameras. K(arl) wrote: oh, and BTW, CHRISTIAN ISN'T A PARADOX, HE IS A TASMANIAN!

It's not about the destination but the journey there. Would you like to be broken down on the road in Detroit (or Miami) at 4 or 5 AM on your way to work? Concealed weapon holders are the most law abiding segment of the population. They are not the ones you need to worry about but the ones who intend to do harm do not care about rules or laws. I mean come on if someone is going to come to work and shoot up the place are they goign to stop and think.... well this rule about not bringing a gun into work made me stop my homicidal rampage through the office?

Although it's a bit different working for a bank, I have nothing against colleagues bringing their guns to work if they take care of them. At my last place, our DBA had his Glock on him at all times. The point is that he had it on him at all times. We are not a branch, but banks are obviously more sensitive about guns. I don't know if there is a clear policy on guns in cars (sounds like a movie name), and this is complicated by many employees not parking in the actual bank parking (but in a private parkade). Bringing a gun into the building without written permission is a dismissable offence. The building security provide a safe lockup where staff leave their guns when they enter the building. I live in the UK, so guns are an alien culture to most of us. In the UK to be broken down anywhere at 4 a.m. is unlikely to be a problem, anyone approching you would most likely only want to help you. As in all countries that is not 100% guaranteed but the chances of coming to any harm a miniscule.

Again the type of person who would do thatt will have a gun regardless of permits or rules. With 36 states allowing this how many instaces have you heard about? How many concelaed weapon permit holders have done this at all? How many times have we heard the blood will flow in the streets? Yet it has not happened. but heck if I break in your house and you harm me my family can sue you and will win... What a backwards way of living.

But your crime rate (and gun crime) is rising. All this allows is a person the chance to protect themselves. Call 911 and wait for them to arrive. When they do arrive it is too late. It is a miniscule chance that a person with a peermit will ever have to use it but when they do it allows them to go home tot their family. If they do not have it their family will proably be without that person. given a chance to continue to provide for my family I will do so. Remember that office shooting in boston a few years ago? One of those killed was a CCW holder. he was not allowed to bring his gun to work. but that restriction did not stop thee shooter. Oh and he, the shooter, did not have a permit.

I am OK with you having a gun so long as you keep it the hell away from me and don't have easy access to it when we have a yelling match over using Visual Basic at work. How about the company tax those who bring guns to work so that an office gun safe can be bought. Anyone who wants to protect themselves on their daily comute* can then hand their gun in on the way into the office. Someone everyone trusts can then hold the keys/code to the safe and be the judge of whether the person checking their gun out is in a rational frame of mind (i.e. not drunk, not enraged.) That person should be called when a gun owner is fired too. * I understand that need. Here in South Africa having your car break down on the side of the road at night is not a good thing. Lot more dangerous than the States. regards, Paul Watson South Africa Colib and ilikecameras. K(arl) wrote: oh, and BTW, CHRISTIAN ISN'T A PARADOX, HE IS A TASMANIAN!

I don't speak with my bondage partners. We don't use words. ;) -- Keep talking! I'm the preacher, you're the fool!
