The best programmer on our team is female. And i don't mean best in terms of code output, or organization, or any single area - i mean that if you had to pick one person to see a project through from start to finish, she's the one you'd go with if you wanted the greatest possible chance of success. It's a little surprising at times, when i consider how many truly qualified programmers i've met, and how few of them are men. ( And yet, the vast majority of those looking for work seem to be male... Hmm...) :rolleyes:

Have you ever seen the carry strap for the Polar heart rate monitor? Someone just needs to stitch that inside a shirt all the way around and keep it adjustable. Then stitch pockets across it's stitch line and you'll be good to go. If you patent the idea and it makes you rich you owe me dinner.:cool:

My whole idea is that you would adjust it loosely in circumference but stitch it tightly to the shirt. that way the weight of the iPod would bring it forward only so much when leaning and then the slack in the back would be taken up completely. You'd have to actually stitch the pocket differently to compensate for the tendency-to-dump of most pockets. Make the pocket more narrow and elastic at the top while making it loose and giving it a collapse fold at the bottom so that the stitch at the top would be the pivot and the looseness at the bottom would create a tendency for it to drop lower in the pocket and hang down away from the body while leaning then when you stood up again the weight would balance back out and bring the ipod as a whole close to the body again. The pocket would collapse back (at the bottom) and you'd still have everything safely stowed.

I think it's funny to me that we assume it's a marketing gimmick and don't ponder the possibility that she was in fact the best candidate for the task. In an industry largely dominated by men and claiming to be technical it amazes me how quickly genuine efforts get debased into cup sizes, sexual attraction and other HR related infractions.
I would venture to guess she was the best candidate. I would also venture to guess she has to put slightly more work into this than just a phone call or two while she files papers and gets coffee for all the men getting real work done. As their has already been much discussion about her name, a picture seemed fitting to me as Jordon could be male or female. Additionally, this is the first distribution by CP where it seems to be uniquely individual. The newsletters seem to be a summary of site activity and less a preparation.
When I compare it with other columns and editorials in my local paper a photo of the editor or columnist is always included. I think Jordon's work and delivery is more consistent with journalism standards than it ever was a marketing thing.
Do you really think Maunder sat there and said, "Yeah, let's appeal to their libido." I just don't see Chris or David doing such a thing at all. Maybe I'm wrong but I doubt it. It follows some pretty well established trends in journalism.

The trends I was referrring to was a picture of the columnist along side the column. That was all.
It wasn't your post that bothered me. I knew immediately you were referring to whoever that's in so many signatures here. I don't remember her name and but I knew that's what you meant.
