Anyone tried Microsoft Expression?

Hey guys, Have any of you tried Microsoft® Expression® Interactive Designer yet? What exactly does it do? Right now, I use Cider to create Xaml using a WYSIWYG designer. But Cider is closely bound to Visual Studio and is targeted to go along with C# and VB code-behind source files. I am hoping that Expression can be used to create language independent Xaml. [I mean just Xaml, with no associated source code file] So, anyone tried it out yet? If so, your feedback? Thanks. Regards, Nish

The Ultimate Grid - The #1 MFC grid out there!EID is awesome. Its a bit more complicated than Macromedia Flash, you need to understand WinFX. Its essentially Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator and a bit of Visual Studio wrapped into one. And yes you can create language independant Xaml files. It can do eveything cider can do and much much more complex stuff like Animation,Templates,3D etc.. You can also open you VS project in the designer. make some changes and open it again in VS. It works with the msbuild system. 60% of statistics are made up on the spot -- modified at 8:19 Saturday 25th March, 2006

Thanks Joshua - I may give it a try. Right now, Cider does not work with VC++ projects - such a pity! So I was looking for alternate ways to create Xaml. Only issue is EID is rather heavy - and I am not sure how expensive it will be when it's released. I wonder if it'll be included with MSDN subscription, now that would be cool :-) Regards, Nish

You are not the only one Nish. I have that happen to me, too. I downloaded Expression today because of this thread and it looks pretty cool.

It is meant as a tool that designers use to create good UIs and experiences and then send their XAML to the developers to hook up the functionality (and vice versa.) Expression Interactive Designer is very much for graphic designers. It is meant as a tool that designers use to create good UIs and experiences and then send their XAML to the developers to hook up the functionality (and vice versa.) Ah okay. I presume you mean white caucasians :-) Because Indians are classified under caucasians though it's not so in everyday English usage where caucasian usually refers to a white caucasian of European origin.

Makes sense to me.. all these tools are based on WPF so theres no need to deliver them before. I just wish MS would decouple their systems, and eliviate these interlocked dependancies. e.g. EID cant be released until winfx, vista cant be released until winfx, office 12 cant be released until vista. etc.. 60% of statistics are made up on the spot
