There seem to be a number of posts getting removed and some threads completely vanishing. Why is it that some are left with a "message removed" message with replies still there and others the entire thread seems to vanish?

Because the people who run this website dont want any controversial opinions voiced, even in the "Unmoderated" soapbox.

It appears to be some kind of automatic censorship based on the number of Spam votes I think it's ridiculous. At least some of the posts don't deserve that. But looks like we have a mob of people voting down anything they don't like.

I agree. It seems to be that all it takes now is a couple of users with a hate-on against another user to prevent the user from posting anything at all. Take the Negus's post here, it has only two votes and is already deleted. If it is only a certain group of users (ie protector status) that are deleting posts then fine, but if it is just any general user then I think the system is broken.

Interesting. I thought only Americans used that particular racial insult. You shouldn't let people drag you down to their level, Joergen. You have more character than that. Your training is pointing you to higher ground. You should build a cabin there. The view is much better. ;) [edit] Or, as I once heard it put, never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, but the pig likes it. It was pointed out to me, quite correctly as I see it, that likening someone to a pig isn't exactly taking the higher ground, either. So, I'll publicly strike that remark and offer an apology for it, as is appropriate. [/edit] -- modified at 18:28 Friday 5th January, 2007

Actually, the word "ebonics" is a common and acceptable term. I quote from the usage note under "Black English" at dictionary.com: "Linguists generally prefer the term African American Vernacular English, although some use the term Ebonics, which saw widespread use in the late 1990s."

There seem to be a number of posts getting removed and some threads completely vanishing. Why is it that some are left with a "message removed" message with replies still there and others the entire thread seems to vanish?

And what's with the odd spelling of In(n)appropriate? Is it an Aussie thing? I wouldn't be surprised - it wasn't until last week that I learned that maths is the short form of mathematics in other, more civilized parts of the world. Mike

You make an excellent point. Although I was thinking in terms of the general childishness that seems to have taken over here lately, I was also referring to you since I've seen you go out of your way to pick a fight on a number of occasions. With that in mind, you're absolutely right in pointing it out and I offer a sincere apology.
