We are growing back in speed, and moving up the team lists Up to 523 from 526 (and soon to be 522). Since I first posted about folding for CP to get interest (Trollslayer has in the past) I am using Team Lavaboy as our arch nemesis for a reason. It is embarrassing, a couple of these guys sound like they are 12. Think of them as the idiots asking questions in C# and C++ forums, declare war! :) We've added even two more new members to the folding list and woke up another existing member! woohoo!! Team Code Project[^] Active user count[^] now here are our rivals... Team Lavaboy[^]. Can you seriously get geekier? and they are hot on our tail. I am trying to pull our numbers up on the weekend. Team Lavaboy too is using two large production users (OptiK and Zabby) just like us (acidhelm and SamuraiCatJB). This does work, per se, it is how they caught up to us and how we are staying just ahead of them. But I still feel more users doing minor amounts helps. Sure a 3rd or 4th large producer will help a lot, but it puts a lot of effort on those people. 100 smaller producers, only 5% or 10% rather than full production would gather points as a team. Imagine these other guys, "luckydawgboy", "McDeath", "Sparky", "Mr_Bill33", "vampiresquid" as the programmers you see begging for homework questions in the forums (doesn't luckydawgboy sound like what these guys would name themselves? seriously...). Imagine they are the CLK's of the world, the worm salad servers, the drive-by one voters.... lets show them we can win as a team! Fold with Team code project: download a client, pick a user name, and use team 11561[^], if you want to produce only 10%, go to the configure options, Advanced Tab, change CPU use to 10% or so. Folding also doesn't really register user names, so 10 people could us

Nope - I've read this post a couple of times now, and it makes as much sense to me as an incontinent mumbler with his mouth especially full, after eating 15 stuffed olives, while covering his mouth with a 3 month dead chihauha. Let the real El go, and nobody needs to get hurt.

Trollslayer tried a "do some good" message way back when, it didn't work. I was hoping a bit of competition might work. But I won't bother you again. The real El is complicated, more complicated than anyone knows. :) blame it on flute playing, origami folding, dehydrating in the desert the last 3 weeks, or working up to 80 hour weeks. No one knows the 100% full story of the real El. :) El is... well, El, that is as much as you can say. :)

Nope. All I wanted was some clarification - just a simple explanation for an old fogey like me who can't keep up with these new fangled ways.

you are NOT as old as your picture. Heck, I am turning 44 this year, though I keep forgetting 2-3 years when asked my age if I don't stop and do the math before I speak -- It's not deliberate (at least not conscious), but I think I have mispoken about my age 3 times in the last 3 months with 3 different ages. You'll probably outlive me, my memory's obviously already failing. :)

Well, your post prompted me to finally order the upgrades i've been putting off for several years now. My new AMD won't touch your mighty GPUs, but at least i'll have a spare core to toss into the game. :)

I can confirm that it works very well indeed, just keep an eye on it, once in a while (every few days of non stop action) it get's in a weird mode and starts saying it's going to restart in 24 hours due to some mysterious error but if you reboot it happily churns away. I've been shooting up the charts with just my 8800GTS and the gpu client.

Nice post, don't worry about those that are slower on the uptake, they'll get there eventually and the truly convincing part for me was that real world discoveries and possible treatments for nasty and common diseases are already coming about as a result of this project so we're doing all ourselves and those close to us a potential favour down the road so enlightened self interest ought to be enough if nothing else will suffice. I'm doing my bit and I hope others will kick in as well, we need to just keep getting the word out here regularly.

How do I get to be a large production user? I have my 8800 Nvidia card churning away at it, do you mean more computers or is there something more I can do with my quad core machine? Maybe run the multicore (it seemed a bit flaky) at the same time as the gpu or...?

nothing beats a nv280+, nothing. You can churn out 5000 points a day on a single card, dual card about 10,000 points a day, and that is not counting any CPU cores. CPU's can churn about 250-500 points per core, which is about how many you are probably getting on an 8800. To equal an nv280 you would need 12 fast cores dedicated to the same job as one GPU. The next ATI release will probably outdo the nv cards, but then the next nv release will step again, and so on, and so on.

When someone has an "URGENT!!!!! PLZ!" request, reply as such: "This task would normally take five months to complete. However, Folding at Home, at the forefront of science, lets you fold time in such a way that you can swap the "result" part with the "proto-in" part (which is scientific for what you have to put in before you get results). So, first, install this folding application. Make sure it runs uninterrrupted for ten months, so it can also unfold your personal space time continuum. Best let it run longer, so it can also iron out the wrinkles. WARNING: This is very new technology, and by the nature of time, a failure to correctly unfold the STC is unobservable to outsiders. However, running into above-mentioned STC wrinkles is described as "glorious mess" by one of the few survivors.

tesla is basically a slightly stronger 280+. With nVidia they have the quadro and geforce series. The primary difference is in AA routines, and bit rounding, and the quadro is usually about 2% faster than the geforce just to make the users feel like they are getting more than just prettier pictures. The tesla is a quadro, though you can get up to 4 on the tesla.
