Open a US bank account, stick it in there and transfer big chunks when the rate is good. Also means you could spend that money when you travel over there and not pay two conversion rates. An anonymous Swiss account would also be kind of cool

Yeah, I was actually considering that, especially as I don't actually need money on a month to month basis. I should do that in July, I perhaps should have done that last week. The only issue I see is, how do I account for that to the tax office ?

Which is why I am not in favour of massive welfare in my country. that's also why you can't have my money, by definition of where you live, begging makes you exactly what you're describing ( I know you were not serious, but, I am using the example ). My point is, you don't seem to realise how there are places where people plain cannot eat, and not because of laziness. Or even how your own prosperity is based on their poverty.

If I couldn't eat I would grow a garden, in fact I have one full of potatoes just in case. If there was a drought how are they going to spend that money on food then huh?

ROTFL. The USD is still worth more than the AUD. If you were indexed to the AUD, you'd have got a shock, a year ago it was worse than it is now, close to equity. So, it's been a roller coaster. I just hoped it would sit at 60 for a while, and didn't expect it to go above 75.

Talk to a good accountant or maybe a financial planner, I'm sure there are many "opportunities" to reduce your tax :)

That's the smartest thing I've heard you say. I have 11 acres, and we grow enough fruit and veg, as well as raising lamb and chickens, that we could feed ourselves if we needed to. More people should grow at least some food.

Wow. My money is not given to poor people, it is used to fund aid such as food, seeds, sources of water, to help people to be able to feed themselves.

Not really. I mean, it wasn't something I was ever asked to vote on. I tend to buy locally made, even though it costs more, as I've said before. Voting with your wallet is the only choice we get in all of this.

You may recall that you once ask this forum why "the government" couldn't just print money (and thereby solve all the problems). Some of us explained why not ... and now history-as-you're-experiencing it is demonstrating why not.

Our money is indeed a lot prettier than yours. I assume this is because it feels insecure, the greenback has nothing to prove.

My accountant is the one who suggested this, but more for a single lump sum I will get in a few months. He's a little cavalier for my taste. I'm too pretty to go to jail.

I have no clues about your laws but could it be as simple as "disclose everything"? I've got an offshore account or two. But, I've always disclosed everything about the income and it's sources to the 'tax man'. And, I tend to depend on an attorney far more than my accountant for making sure everything is up to code.

The question is, how do they tax it in AUD ? Until I convert it, the question of conversion rates is what I think could be messy.

I wish he had done a better job on my wife. I can't even keep up with the weeds on my 1.5 acres and my job is less than 15 miles away. I'd be happy to grow a garden but I can't eat all the stuff my retired neighbors dump on us as it is.

Honestly, I do a poor job at the moment. I have several beds in decent order, a lot that's rough, and some that just needs work. I hope to turn that around over winter this year.
