      Want to come to Kansas City? Know WPF, ASP.NET and a good team player?

      Yes to WPF, ASP.NET and good team player; no to moving to Kansas City. I just came to Phoenix two years ago.

                  For the next 12 months or so. Still have to fly back to Deerfield Beach a couple times for a contract there too.

                    I wish you luck. I would hate to look for a job right now as I do not interview or test well. Interviews I can do until the first question I cannot answer then its down hill fast. I being 54 have a strike against me walking in the door. Look into the local job agencies, Monster and Dice. There are a couple of others that I do not remember. Also I heard just last week that LinkedIn is a source managers use. Again Good Luck, djj

                    I'm in a very similar situation, and it looks as if we're going to lose our house and property. We're going into foreclosure. This wasn't a sub-prime mortgage, either, but I had a heart attack, wiping out our savings, and now I can't find work, the value of the property has plunged by >60K and we can't sell it. :|

                          Things have improved out here somewhat since I got laid off last January, but it's still primarily that Web crap and companies who think that's what they need. If you do that Web crap you can probably get something very quickly. It also depends on how far east you are. I'm beyond Apache Junction, and some companies may choose to hire someone closer in to town. In my case, age may also be a silent factor.

                                  It looks like I will be on the next unemployment statistic for the US. Just as quick question, does anyone have any great ideas on the job search in this market (Or lack of market) and what is the best way to go about it? I am in the east valley of Phoenix, AZ which was booming with jobs two years ago but seems to be as dried up as the weather today. Any advice would be better than no advice. :sigh:

                                  I am in the other side of this frustration. It appears there are no 5 year C++ programmers in the Pittsburgh area that want a job writing Qt applications for $55K. Okay I do admit the starting salary is low however this is out of my control.

                                    Jebus! I have to reach a certain age before I'm considered senior!? I thought it was years of experience that counted. Oh well, my mistake I guess.

                                        The problem working for a university is that hr sets the pay scales from what they believe is acceptable. We do have one benefit that you generally do not get elsewhere though. I mean after 3 years they match your retirement account contribution by $1.50 for every $1.00 you contribute up to your max contribution of 8% which is 12% match from their side. Also, after 60 days I believe its is $1.00 to $1.00 match.

                                          Seems like John's boss is being a cheapskate to me too. I make about that much after 4 years and I'm living in a cheaper market than he is. Pittsburgh's no LA or NYC; but a fair rate would still be at least $5k, maybe 10, more.

                                          3x12=36 2x12=24 1x12=12 0x12=18
