Politics are entwinned in our lives. Due to politics you can or can't do things that you would like/need to do. Many people get too caught up in it. Many people are deceived by a party or its leaders. It may appear that your vote doesn't matter, because both (well atleast in the US it is more often than not 2 parties) are wankers. However, one wanker wants to screw you today while the other wants to screw you tomorrow. One wants to screw your parents and the other wants to screw your children. You just have to make a decision on whom you think can handle getting screwed. And don't forget to screw them back when ever you get the chance.... Cause the fact remains, they are wankers. And a good way to screw them over is by voting for some other wanker :-D

I want a 'no govt' voting option. Just scrap it entirely and let the civil service run the country on the established laws. :)

I think the laws and such can all go to a full blown democracy. The reason the republic was created was people could not all be involved. The internet has changed that. It could be a simple process that allows voting or not. Something like you have to "view" certain materials before allowed to vote on the topic (like you have to actually view the proposed law change etc...) The numbers of passing laws could be based on total population and allowed voters. In this way just because a group of people is knowledgable about the topic they can not get laws through with out making the populace aware of the topics etc. I saw politicians are a thing of the passed. Throw them to the curb a long with their complicated beuracracy. Wipe the laws and start over. Wipe the tax system and start over. Its a different world and we the people need to lock our control of it and never let individuals have too much power.

You know it often strikes me just how much Americans care about politics; it is discussed a lot on CP. Personally, as a cynical European, I just don't give a toss really. I don't think I ever voted more than once because whoever you vote for, you still get the same corrupt wankers in govt. and nothing much chamges for the man in the street.

In Chicago, the tradition is to vote early and vote often, for the same election of course.

yeah, scrap govt. all it is there for is changing laws. and replace it with internet voting. say someone wants a new law, he produces an srgument, in the form of a documentart, shows it on tv, the internet, etc, and those interested vote. simple, fair, cheap

So what happens when 4chan passes an obscure law banning geology? Or when the number of potential laws numbers in the hundreds of thousands, and very disturbing laws start passing with only one vote because the sheer volume meant that the only person to notice it was the person who made it?

OK, so how about a pre vote qualifier, ie, a bill needs 1000 signatures before it goes to an internet vote?

Thankfully the media here tends to ignore pollys personal life to a much larger degree than either the US or the UK. It is unlikely a polly would be sacked for having a mistress or an escort for instance. Paying for the hooker with the govt CC on the other hand is frowned upon.

OK, so how about a pre vote qualifier, ie, a bill needs 1000 signatures before it goes to an internet vote?

So 1000 people have to vote for it before anybody can vote for it?

Where as being lied to one every four years, and then dictated to for the next three years twelve months three weeks and six days is infinitely preferable,
