Yes; they still work, along with shift-delete for cut (instead of Ctrl-X).

C++ is a funny languageI know what you mean; it's certainly not a handholding language. I don't profess to know any where near enough about template metaprogramming to be able to coerce it do do some of the things I might like. Definitely a language for grown up programming.

Robotics definitely gonna be a thriving industry at least.
Has been for decades, of course, I still recall the 70's adverts for cars "handbuilt by robots". Of course he blue collar assembly jobs went, and that caused a big shift and not a little unease/unrest. My biggest gripe with AI isn't with AI per se but with the attitude that it can be trained for free on the labours of others. It's almost like where a highly skilled worked is made "redundant" but then has to train their super cheap replacement to do the job in their place. We've already seen the take what you need want and if anyone complains set the lawyers on them arguments. Sort of like what we in the UK call a SLAPP.

Everyone needs staples in their head. "VStudio Updates: Via social media Pin"Oh man, that was unlucky. In so many ways. Keep taking the tablets. As Moses said.

Job boards - dice specificallyI saw a description recently along the lines of AI enables the wealthy to gain access to skills while denying the skilled access to wealth. Kind of see what they mean.

Was I wrong about Analyst Programmers?I've worked with people like that; they get completely engrossed in the detail to the point that they can't see (or explain) the bigger picture.

Eliminating old booksYou could donate them to your local community theatre (if you have one) as props.

Another disk copying questionWorth knowing. Once we open up the console and get the old disk out we'll know better.

Another disk copying questionI'll look into it - thanks.

Another disk copying questionThanks - another option to consider.

Another disk copying questionThanks for the offer, but I think you're in the USA and shipping from UK to USA and back would probably work out the same as buying a disk copier like honey suggested. Plenty to think about - thanks for the suggestions, everyone.

Another disk copying questionThanks, I hadn't come across those, and it's certainly an option. I have a SATA docking station, I wonder if there would be a way, with a second docking station, to effectively simulate what this does. Maybe a linux boot and a low level disk operator - does dd do this sort of thing? Thanks for the pointer, anyway.

Another disk copying questionI have a friend who was given a lighting console and was told that the previous owner thought the hard drive was on its way out. We're thinking about trying to replace the drive, the problem being, we need to copy over the OS as well, and there's a really good chance it's not Windows or Linux like most modern lighting desks; it's quite probably something custom. The other problem is this desk is officially obsolete, so the re-imaging kits that used to be available are no longer listed. We'll try to locate one, but not holding out much hope. So here's the thing. The disk isn't very large (haven't checked but unlikely to be more than 250GB), so a replacement won't cost much, but I'm not sure what the best way would be to, essentially, do a "tape-to-tape" copy of the disk. Any suggestions?

Why should I bother?dandy72 wrote:
Wasn't the Queen's full title something like 3 pages long?
Quite possibly. As I said, it's all tosh. But it strikes me as analogous to referring to the President of Idaho or the Prime Minister of Saskatchewan. Technically true, but it would grate for "natives".

Why should I bother? You'll need to update that to the King, now, of course :-D OOI, why refer to the King/Queen of England? The monarch is monarch of The United Kingdom and commonwealth realms, not just England. The last person who was literally "Queen of England" (only) was Queen Anne in 1707, when the act of union occurred. I know, it's utter tosh, but nonetheless it always interests me why (particularly, but not only) North Americans refer to the King/Queen of England.

MS Word bugsWhat if you use Ctrl-H to open the search and replace dialog? My copy of word 2016 shows the "not allowed" pointer when that dialog is open.
