  • How many lines of C# code does it take to change a light bulb?
    A arcb

None. Unfortunately, the lightbulb was originally implemented in VB6, there's only one guy in the building who maintains the old codebase and he's got an 11 year backlog of Y2K stuff still to fix.

Biggest non-infinite number used in a mathematical proof, that should be, as Grahams number^2 is clearly bigger.

  • [Mathematics] Sum of angles of triangle [Updated]
    A arcb

Before anyone else critisizes the pythagoras use in the original post, please note that 1, 2 and 3^0.5 do in fact make a right angled triangle. Why assume the 3^0.5 is the hypotenuse? You can't draw a line of length 3^0.5, because it has no measuring unit, so it isn't a length. But you can easily construct a line of 3^0.5 arbitary units of length by using a reference line of two arbitary units of length, without ever having to worry about measuring the 3^0.5 arbitary units of length line, because you know mathematically it is correct. You don't even need to measure the 1 arbitary unit of length line... If you don't need to know how big the arbitary unit of length is, you don't even need to measure that to know that the line you have constructed is 3^0.5 units of it long. Which means this triangle is certainly possible, and you still don't need to measure the angles to know it'll also have 180 degrees. This construction also creates a perfect pi/2 angle, another irrational number, drawn without ever even needing to know what the value of pi is beyond three and a bit.

A right angled triangle with sides of length 1 and 2 can have a side of 3^0.5, but it won't be the hypotenuse.

  • Why are computers so unpronouncable?

No, the Queen is English. Her family has some Germans in it. (Albert was the last actual German, the first was brought in to replace Anne). It also has Scots, French, Spanish, Dutch, Danish, Greek... There's greek before Phil even. And Phil was prince of Greece and Denmark, due to his parents. And then there's Harry, who's probably Irish...

Lots of the rule changes over the last few years have been trying to get the cars to be more equal, and next year with the low budget caps, even the little teams will be able to compete... Personally, i think it's daft... I *want* to see teams who can afford to spend 100 million a year on two cars, building cars that are the absolute pinacle of what you can do with 4 wheels and an engine. The history of F1 is littered with ideas that have made production cars more efficient, safer, better handling, more reliable, QUICKER...

...so quite why footballers are paid quite so well to mooch up and down a field for 90 minutes is beyond me.

Because most of the world watches football... If a player is good enough to get into a team like Man United, who has fans in places where they don't even have TV, who can get into news papers just because of who they are, someone is going to want to advertise on them. If the team gets paid a vast amount to show 11 mobile advertising hoardings once a week, surely its fair that the mobile advertising hoardings themselves get paid? Plus, statistically, football is one of the most exiting sports there is... The low number of goals/points per gaem means there is much more chance of the underdog pulling of a spectacular upset. (New Scientist, sometime in the last 3 years...) And as for cricket, name another game that can last for 5 days, and still come down to a nail-biting last bowl of the ball!
