I stick with the default. Sorry to hear that you have a bad experience with VS 2019.

  • Good one, Microsoft...
    B Benktesh Sharma

It's good that Microsoft is addressing issues. I have a situation, not necessarily with Visual Studio, where reported bugs don't even change the status for five years, started by someone before me and I have been out of that job already, was just tracking.

  • New version of visual studio
    B Benktesh Sharma

I am using a laptop that I purchased in 2012 with intel core i5 16 GB Ram and have not experienced any issues with VS 2019 with respect to memory or disk. I think what you are building within the Visual Studio could cause issues, but not necessarily by IDE.

  • New version of visual studio
    B Benktesh Sharma

I have been using VS 2017 for the past two years. Never experienced any issues. The updates were frequent and things were dine nicely. Just a week ago, I installed VS 2019. Certain things like cloud development are easier in VS 2019. As backup, I keep pervious version. So, I uninstalled VS 2015.

  • Is this why Agile often fails?
    B Benktesh Sharma

Your thoughts are valid. Another thing that happens in the transformation is the following: The team-based approach where the team decides how to add value in agile may not get traction, if the organization has not ever done agile and that the team will continue to prioritize the procedures in place. With lack of out-of-box thinking, the ideas and values of the Agile processes won't get priority at least in the medium term thus making the transformation process often slow.

  • How to get applicable OOP / software structure knowledge
    B Benktesh Sharma

I agree with the points mentioned by fellow members. I just wanted to convey my thoughts on OOP/Software Structure Knowledge and how experience can or in some cases cannot bring that knowledge. If I am working on a product continuously, I am getting better at the same software I am working on, but not necessarily becoming better at OOP/Software Design because I would not know what's outside. You are lucky if you get to work on a variety of projects that have different development stages or framework etc on a daily basis then the experience working with diverse software will be invaluable to OOP/Software Design. But if you get to work on the same software (such as maintaining and minor enhancement), you could look at completely different language/framework and start making side projects. I find this approach very useful because when I start to learn new language/framework then I have to set my mind at '0' and then I get the way that I have not been working with. For example, working with Android Development in Java made me better at background tasks and multithreading which I rarely use in my regular .Net work and I started to use the techniques I learn in Android/Java in my .Net/C# development.

  • Call for a Professional Programmers' Association
    B Benktesh Sharma

I believe the call is raising a very important concern. While it is true that fault can come from management, but a programmer sitting on a desk may not have the right defense to say 'no' to things that he or she is asked to certain things which do not necessarily is ethical. An association could also make a programmer stronger so that he/she can defend in reference to ethical standards set by the professional association and with the existence of such association, programmers may not be proactively working on the 'unethical' things within the software. Uncle (Bob) Martin would also agree as he has been talking about a need for professionalism for some time now. HEre is the link about Uncle (Bob) Martin's call for professionalism Robert C. • 'recover' deleted blog article
    B Benktesh Sharma

I got a blog imported via rss feed. The format was messed up. I deleted it as I did not want users to see an incorrectly formatted article. I have now corrected the formatting issue. I wonder if I can have that 'restored'. The article I am talking about is at Map/Reduce script in SuiteScript 2.0[^] Thank you.
