If you play your cards right and are willing to put in the crazy hours of learning and developing, then you can make a boat load as a programmer. I also don’t see where it’s true about all the outsourcing issues. The only people I hear complain about that are 50 year old men that are mad that they don’t program with punch cards anymore. Sr.computer web application developers are estimated to be one of the top 5 fields for pay and job demand within the next 5 years.

At my work we have a help desk department and a developers department, and even though I work in the developers department the head of HR calls me for her computer issues. Once she called me and asked me how to save a file. I told her to call help desk, but she keeps calling me. It’s annoying to say the least.

I am actually graduating from a 2 year tech school at the age of 21 on Friday. For the past 5 months have been working part time at my first programming job. I have been developing a piece of software using C#.net and oracle to track inventory and an ordering system to order products out of a storage area. It wasn't anything to advanced, but I had to work on it solo, so I did learn a lot. The hardest part is I had no former training on C# or oracle. I also find that no one takes you seriously at 21.
