I've had the best luck with DVD Flick[^]. It is the easiest (while not most feature packed) program I've found and does a very nice job of getting the task done.

On today's computers and with the JVM's out there today, I'd say both run about equally as fast. Personally, I like JSP when I'm running my own server (running tomcat). If you are using a hosting company to host your site, I'd definately use asp. Unless you want to spend quite a bit of money, most of your java hosts use a shared VM for your site, and they are not very much fun to work. Otherwise, I'd say both perform about equally performance wise...it just comes down to language preference then. I'm not sure if this is available in the UK, but if you are in the market for a GOOD music service, I'd go with rhapsody. It's 9.95 per month for unlimited access (you can stream as many songs as you want). Plus, you can dl the .mp3's to your computer (uses a DRM) and play them (i think the licenses last for a month, but everytime you start rhapsody, it renews your licenses). If you actually want to own the song forever, it costs 99 cents (US). Disadvantage is you must burn them to a cd when buying a song. Though I would never do this, you could just turn around and rip the cd after you burn it. But I've only ever bought 1 song, so this isn't an issue for me. They also have compatible mp3 players that use the drm so you can dl straight to your mp3 player. Must be motorola in general, because I have a motorola cell phone and absolutely hate it. Whoever "designed" the user interface needs to find a new job. Add to that the fact that the phone freezes if you are typing a text message and you hit the max characters allowed size. I actually had to take the battery out of the phone in order to get it to be usable again. What kind of books? When I was attending college, there were always free (outdated, but still usefull) books that professors and former students would leave in the computer science building for the students to take. I received a good number of books this way that I otherwise would probably have never read. One thing to be sure to make sure you get is the fastest hard drive you can. If you plan on doing lots of developing and/or running sql server on this laptop, you WILL need a fast hard drive (5400 probably won't cut it). However, getting the faster harddrive usually means the need for a bigger power requirement, which leads to a heavier laptop. I have an IBM G41 and absolutely love it. The battery life isn't great (I can get about 1 hour if running eclipse or visual studio), but when plugged in, this laptop is fast (for a laptop that is). The one major downside is it's weight. I'm not sure how much it does weigh, but it isn't light. I know you said that the weight is a concern, so this may not be the best choice for a laptop. But I urge you to defineately think about the hard drive speed when looking, and I wouldn't buy anything with less than 1 GB of ram (preferably 2 GB).
