Try going to: "about:config" and look for: network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server That allows you to change it on a bog standard install of FF 1.5 And for those wanting to change the setting in IE: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/183110/ (I have never tried it, but it looks like it should work) Chris.

  • Running ASPX 2.0 page causes my domain account to be locked out?
    C Chris Ormerod

Solved it. For some reason IIS had an old password in it somewhere which only affected .Net 2.0, 1.1 and 1.0 were fine. The solution: 1. Install MetaEdit 2.2: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q232068[^] 2. Open it and navigate to LM\W3SVC\1\ROOT\ 3. If UNCUserName is your username, then modify UNCPassWord to be your current password. http://forums.asp.net/1105133/ShowPost.aspx[^] Wow, autolinky [^] when I pasted that link. • Running ASPX 2.0 page causes my domain account to be locked out?
    C Chris Ormerod

Hi All, Just wondering if anybody has experienced the problem I am facing when trying to run an ASP.Net 2.0 app. I created a virtual directory in IIS and switched it to Version 2.0 on the ASP.Net tab, but each time I go to an ASPX page in the site it will cause my domain account to be locked out within a few minutes. I am on XPSP2 and have the RTM version of the Framework and SDK installed - normal console apps work fine. I can't find anything on the net about this. I tried using the alockout.dll thing from MS, but that just crashed IIS. Thanks, Chris

Steve McLenithan wrote: and selling them on the streets? Are you kidding? I was just in Vanuatu (Port Vila) and they weren't being sold at the markets, the real DVD stores there had nothing but pirate software and DVDs. And they weren't much cheaper than you would pay in Australia for a real DVD. Ever seen Microsoft Application 2005 ? (thats Vt.2800 = ~USD$24 - all the DVDs were about that price, even the handicam shot ones) The company (yes real registered company) that makes them has the disclaimer at the bottom "All rights of the reproduced reserved" :omg: I particulary liked the boxes for the Xbox copies ("Only for XGame") and PS2 ("Only for PlayGame"). I must say I was completely shocked about how open it was. I knew piracy was bad, but I never knew real stores and real companies would be involved in such a way.

    C Chris Ormerod

Hi Michael, Have you thought of using ROBOCOPY and MKISOFS (windows version obviously) in a batch file? ROBOCOPYXP (from the WIndows resource kit) has the /mir option which will do what you want. Just whack it in a batch file on their desktop and be done with it. And if they want it burnt to CD as well, the Windows resource kit includes CDBURN and DVDBURN command line ISO burning tools that could be used in a batch as well. Cheers, Chris.

Thats seems like a completely unrelated problem to the graphical problems I was talking about. I am currently running FC1 on Virtual PC, but I am sure they have changed a lot of it since then... I don't really know what that could be. Chris.

"neon outlines" is a much better way of describing it than "messed up colours", but that is exactly what I was seeing (both in VPC and on the real PC). Sorry it didn't fix it for you. Have you tried Fedora Core, Ubuntu or Mandrake? I am currently running all of them under VPC2004 without any problems (apart from the initial Neon affect). Chris.

    C Chris Ormerod

If by "messed up" you mean crazy colours and lines etc. Then try configuring X to run in 16bit, most new distributions (Mandrake 10, Ubuntu, FC3(I think - and RH9 is similar to FC3 isn't it?)) are all defaulting to 24bit during installation (and in the case of Ubuntu it doesn't even give you a choice.) To fix this edit the XF86Config file to force it to use 16bit and it should work fine on VPC. (FInd the "Display" section and it should be fairly obvious what to change.) The reason for this problem is that the S3 video card that VPC emulates can't handle 24bit colour without new drivers apparently. I also had exactly the same problem on an older PC I have that has a 3D Labs Permedia card in it. Hope this helps. Chris.

  • Modern Halloween - Whats the point?
    C Chris Ormerod

I live in penrith, which I don't think is too far from where you are and... I THINK THEY ARE GETTING THE POINT!!! last year we had about 3 kids turn up on the door with very empty bags (obviously my house isn't the only one being stingy with the lollies), this year there was just one... always turned away with the "this isn't the USA" line. We can only hope this trend continues next year, as you say Halloween is an American thing, no excuse for any other country to be forced into doing it. Chris.

  • google popup blocker
    C Chris Ormerod

Yep, either the popup blocker in FireFox 1.0pr, or the advertisers have figured out new popup techniques. Not one single popup has gotten past IESP2 for me, nor did any get past any previous version of FireFox. I particularly think there is a problem "when the page closes do the popup" popups in FireFox, as I always notice them just after closing a tab and I can't remember what site it was. Chris.

    C Chris Ormerod

You may be able to use some sort of bounce flash. I have also heard of a thing called a "light box" (or something similar) basically some white sheets you form a box around your object with the sheets and shoot the flash through the sheets (i think this is how it works - I have never actually taken a product shot before) Maybe one of the pro photographers can help out? I am only a beginner. Chris.

  • Nee help: Upgrade from XP Home to XP Professional
    C Chris Ormerod

Seeing as you have XP SP2 on your "Home" machine, it may in fact be unable to upgrade a XP SP2 Home to a XP SP0 Pro machine. You are probably best to format your C drive and install from scratch with Pro (the upgrade will allow this, it may just ask to see the XP home CD) or maybe there is a KB article on this? Also perhaps you can make a version of your Pro CD with SP2 built into it so your XP Home machine doesn't think it is old? Chris

  • Thunderbird .08 upgrade?
    C Chris Ormerod

I upgraded at home and at work. It worked fine at home. At work I got a strange error about password not being sent. I found this thread on the forums and posted my results: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=127695[^], that might help you? To tell the truth though I have switched back to outlook XP at work today. (and I was only using Thunderbird at home to test it out before installing it at work - I use Outlook 2003 at home) I tried using thunderbird for 2 weeks, but it is just to slow to handle the volume of mail, and the Firefox/Thunderbird textboxes still bug me. If the text gets highlighted you can't click into the text until you click off the text box and back onto it. Also thunderbird is just missing too many features at the moment to compete. Like simple things such as "Insert > Signature > [Choose Signature]", you can only make it attach the SAME signature to ALL messages. And it was also doing wierd things in relation to received mail having incorrect times on it, and downloading things twice (I have the leave messages on server for 2 days option) and other crazy things I just can't afford to have happening to my email. But you have fun using it now. Ok... And for the main reason I wanted to use it, spam filtering, I have downloaded the outlook version of Spam Bayes today. Much better I think. (and sorry to go nuts about Thunderbird, I know you were just asking a question :)) Chris.

  • Sorry to ask this _again_ .....
    C Chris Ormerod

I just (last week) signed up for godaddy.com hosting and so far from my trials all the ASP.Net, ASP works - although at the moment it is just running a couple of HTML pages, I mainly got it because of the 1GB of space and 15GB monthly bandwidth - which can come in useful when pics can be 4-10MB each. In regards to SQL, well it has mySql so if that is good enough for you, then I can recommend Godaddy.com, $7.95USD per month if you sign up for 12 months (you can get PHP on linux for like $3 a month I think.) I also think PHP works as well but I didn't try that yet. Also I have my domain with them (and have had it with them for about a year) and for $8 a year you can't go wrong. Just a tip if you sign up for godaddy.com, during the signup process they ask if you want to sign up for "enhanced" site statistics for a few extra dollars - they don't make it clear that your hosting already includes quite decent site statistics for free and the free ones are good enough for me. Cheers, Chris

    C Chris Ormerod

Well, what the hell is absolutely not offensive to me. But when writing something that may be read by people in the US, it try to avoid using damn, hell, etc. It seems alot of them don't like it - hence words like heck and darn. So make that a 1 on the scale for "hell".
