Hypothetical QuestionSay the IT Director of our company is retiring.... What is the best way of angling myself up for Promotion? Im already quite high-profile in the Company for Leading the development of a key online project and work with some key directors already... There are other people in the department (Mostly been there longer than me but I would neccessarily said they have more experience or ability) that are going to start manouvering themselves to be his replacement.. I Already have good connections with 2 key decision making directors in the business.. Just would love to be given the opportunity to give it a go as I feel I have some ideas that could make a real difference Any Ideas?

Ever deployed an App but had this happen? If It was a real enterprise, my request to open port 8080 would be met with discussion not a straight no.. lol

Ever deployed an App but had this happen?Okey Ive just spent an age deploying a web app onto our Server and pushed it onto a test port just to "hide" it from the Live App Users.. (We basically want a live preview for Certain users).. Now its emerged that our Lovely Network Admin has blocked access to All ports but Port 80, because he did some Googling and discovered that HTTP only uses Port 80.. Yep No SSL No Custom Port How many people have encountered Network Techs that Literally do things like this????

And by the time it reachs London, its said that the Water in it has gone through several peoples Body systems upstream due to the fact its used for Drinking Water by multiple Cities along the Stream.. Lessons learned by an old fartOne of my most important lessons has to be "Never release new code on a Friday". I have argued many times with Managers over the dangers of releasing on a Friday and have now finally educated mine to release on Tuesdays... JC

is it true about MSSQL Database serverThere is a break even point where the Cost Per Seat becomes more expensive than the Per CPU. I think the breakeven point is actually quite low at something like 100 Per-User licenses? though I could be wrong.. After this point its more cost effective to just license the box. JC

can Microsoft SQL Server handle it?It can handle the data and workload, its just that these online companies and startups (as they were) opted for the cheapest option (ie free) back when they started up, to minimise startup costs. They carry on using these systems as it will be too costly to migrate onto another platform. Simple economics really.. JC
