I've managed to get it going with the following workaround. I allow the user to specify a custom MAPI DLL. Then, instead of just loading "MAPI32.DLL" and letting Windows locate it, I load the DLL the user specified (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\mozMapi32.dll in this case). This seems to be working.

Yes it is possible to do this. You can map a drive directly across the internet provided the firewall is configured correctly. If you don't have a firewall running and both machines are plugged straight into the modem ... It is unusual that I do anything like this, however if I need to do it I normally setup an access list that allows all IP traffic from one IP to the other. Obviously this is quite a bit easier if you have static IPs. If you have a PIX / ASA and need help with the access list just reply and I can give you an example.

This link has the versions listed that come along with IE. We've never had to put the MSXML components in our install packages explicitly since we require at least IE 5.5 and MDAC 2.7 on the machine to run our products. Thanks for the tip. That revealed the problem. The issue was that the full path to the .bat file I wanted to launch contained spaces. Despite it being enclosed in double-quotes, this still caused a problem for the scheduled task runner. Using dir /x to obtain the 8.3 abbreviated name for the directory which contained the space and using that fixed the problem.

Hmmm... I don't have that same problem (using the same library). Contained control controls are not showing up and the ones that do, Spy++ says it can't find the window at all. Since message boxes are modal just breaking the application in a debugger and looking at the call stack should take you straight to the problem. Steve
