Why is it best practice to move from a windows app to a web app ? Good question. The answer might be: Ease of installation, Ease of updating, Possibility of making it (easily) into a hosted solution. What downside to Web/ASP do you see? Thanks David Everyone else my age is an adult, whereas I am merely in disguise.

Best Platform for a new project -
Best Platform for a new projectQuestion: Why was God able to create the world in just 6 days? Answer: Because he had no installed base to worry about. I've been given an old VB6 application and asked to create a modern version. It has so few users nowadays that I don't have to worry about them. So I have a free hand (within reason) to build it using easiest tools available. Almost an ideal project, so I want to start out right, and set a standard for future developments. What is the best platform to work with? VS8 Is my preference, but do you agree? What gotchas should I look out for (I haven't used it a lot yet) I assume best practice, even for a small business package like this would be ASP.NET, right? What about a package of controls, like Teleric? Do you think they are worth the money? Which one does the best job? Finally, what about generators, like IronSpeed. Are they worth the investment (money and learning time)? Any suggestions/Advice, please. David

Caffeine: A User's Guide to Getting Optimally WiredHave you ever looked at the ingredients chart on a product, almost every product is jammed full of sugar. Basic guide for healthy eating: Before buying anything, read the ingredients list out loud. If there are any ingredients you can't pronounce, don't buy it.

Brace styleYes, this IS interesting. It weems we were all taught the K&R style, yet aklmost all of us (myself included) have come to prefer the "latter" style. Should we be asking for another revision of K&R? Would anybody pay any attention to it anyway? David

Living in CanadaGetting back to the original question - Where should you go for a year - the only sensible answer (if you want to work) is ALBERTA (Calgary or Edmonton). Temperatures are in your range - + 20 to +30c in Summer, -10 to -40C in Winter. The best skiing in the world in the Rockies (Choose Calgary for easiest access to Banff, or Edmonton for family skiing in Jasper) Plenty of work (Remember the word OIL) Bathing - (You want 18c water when it's -30c out side?) I assume you mean public swimming pools - Lots of them, or (for outdoors in winter) there are the hot springs in the Rockies (Banff or Jasper) Other things - The easiest way to get a work permit (this is NOT the EEC - you're a foreigner and need a permit) is to emigrate. You don't have to stay - but if you want to, you can. Mostly, it's the easiest way to get permission to work here is to say you're thinking of moving to Canada permanently. Good Luck DavidGB
