Either one of these would be my dream project. 1 - Working as a developer manager for the development portion of a business where things are not going well. I would require the authority to run the development team as I see fit, but helping the developers who work for me to get back on track, improve their skills and knowledge, and straighten our what is wrong with the software, preferably as a team. One example might be software product(s) still all or mostly in VB6, but needs to be in .NET (C# or VB.NET) and designed for desktop/laptop, mobile, web, touch and non-touch,. etc. in order to be competitive in the marketplace. 2 - Assembling my own "Skunkworks" team at a company to design the next generation of existing software, creating prototypes of new software, so the company is meeting marketplace changes. The team would need to understand the market the company works in, business in general, as well as advanced in their skills as developers. Build it, document it, test it with potential users, make changes as necessary, and once in a workable, useful state, turn it over to the regular development team to maintain and extend.

But that is our job ... take "functional requirements" and translate them into a workable solution; which could be a combination of manual and automated procedure. There will always be new requirements; you simply assign them a priority and catalog them while working on the core requirements. If the original analysis was performed correctly, you will have a core functionality around which you build. If a "new" requirement comes along that causes you to rethink your "core", then the original analysis / design missed its mark. I find that when I truly understand the user's requirements and write the software in such a way that "I" would be pleased to use it, the user's response to the product has always been positive. One still needs to go back to the user at regular intervals to demo the product and get feedback. And if you cannot demo something new at least once a week, then the problem has not been partitioned properly.

Perhaps the next class is about hardware implementation and everybody uses something like a Raspberry Pi. That's why I'm learning Python.

A Firefox add-on called Greasemonkey, (it can take scripts to to pretty amazing things), allow you to block sites,on google searches, (it hides them from you by manipulating what is being redered by Firefox), it also adds a neat "Block" button next to a search result to quickly add sites that bother you. Google used to have a "block"-list, that Google+ -users could add domains to, they removed it, (probably, many companies wanting to lure you in with 'search-term generated page titles', complained, and Google probably yielded, as a block-function, somewhat conflicts with the spirit of "Ad-Words" service) So there are ways, but google should make tools available to the users to manipulate the results you get. The Google AI, is good, but it's also, as all AI, a complete idiot, (search for something related to music a few times, and all your 'C#'-searches, will give you music-related results in stead of C# programming resources) But the core of the problem is less the google-results in themselves, and more the laziness of askers as wells as answerers on "ask"-forums. (regular and functioning forums, delete meaningless questions or answers). We, as the holders of the information, must be better and kinder in the sharing of it! -Frank

Hi Frank, First of all, I am sorry to hear you've had such a negative experience seeking support on CP, which I think is usually excellent, and delivered with empathy to the person who asked the question. I agree with (what I see as) the "gist" of one responder's comment on this thread: that without at least naming the group where you posted, and got an abusive response: it's hard to respond to this post with any specifics. I'm guessing your experience was on a specific QA forum. I also very much agree with Pete O'Hanlon's view that CP really does not need to split any of the support forums into "levels of skill" categories. You do have the power to vote on responses: to report them as abuse, to vote them down, and to respond back to any response you see as inappropriate, or abusive, or off-topic. Did you exercise that power ? In practice, in general, it seems to me like the C# language forum ... compared to the C# QA Forums ... is usually a place where "higher-level" questions are asked, and issues are posed, and there is less "tolerance," there, for questions that are vague, don't indicate what technical context they are in, etc. There has been an issue with one of the most frequent responders on Q&A (and highest rep), going off into wild-tangents, delivering sermons, or lectures, telling people they are stupid, etc. There have been instances of responses on Q&A that "make fun of" the poster's lack of English language skills, suggestive of racism. Well, that's the real world: some people are cruel; some kind; some like you more than you deserve for unknown reasons; some hate you for unknown reasons; some kick you when you are down; some offer a helping-hand ? When I am on QA, and see what I think is an off-the-wall response, I usually put in a response on the thread telling said responder what I think is wrong with their response, and I, at times, report these responses as abuse, as well as down-voting them. In fact, our esteemed colleague Pete O'Hanlon commented here on this forum, some time ago, that he had to leave helping-out on Q&A activity because he just couldn't stand the behavior of one or two individuals. There have been numerous posts here on this forum, over the last year, regarding Q&A forums, what questioners should be required to do; what to do about people who frequently seem to give long-winded off-topic responses, etc. The issue you raise is not a novelty, here ! But, I think it's unrealistic to expect that people who are busy working professionals, operating
