Rather sad...I'm not saying that he is qualified in environmental science, but he does have a background in science. And I bet he put a lot more research into his book than Bono or Don Henley does before they "act as popularisers." Jeff Martin My Blog

Rather sad...You should keep in mind that Michael Crichton is a former college professor (anthropology) and an M.D. His books are fiction, but they are rooted in very well researched facts. It's funny how when a musician or actor who barely finished high school speaks about the environment, everyone thinks it's the gospel. But a guy with 2 advanced degrees from Harvard gives his opinion and the same people say "but he writes fiction!" Jeff Martin My Blog

Code Generation and NUnit Testing in ASP.NET?I use nUnit w/ ASP.NET apps, but not to test my ASP.NET code. I put very little business logic in the web app. I build the business logic and data access in class libraries and use nUnit to test those. Then on the web app, I just call the same functions as my nUnit tests are calling, so I know I'll get good data back. Jeff Martin My Blog

P2TWhat's better than having to listen to one side of a cell phone conversation in a store or restaurant? Having to listen to both sides of the conversation! Seriously, I've never quite understood one of Nextel's commercials about P2T. The commercials asks "Would you rather have this..." and you hear a phone ringing, then going to voice mail, "or this..." and you hear someone do that little bleep noise and the guy answers and everyone is happy. Basically they are saying you get in touch with someone instantly and don't "miss" them. But if I can't answer my cell phone, making you go to voice mail; chances are I'm not going to be able to answer your little bleep blip thing either. And can you just call someone and start talking? That would be very annoying. Jeff Martin My Blog

Local credit union vs. a Multinational BankThe same legalese that was there when you signed the agreement. And if you call them and tell them you are moving your balance to another card, they will usually return the rate back to where it was. I'm not saying that credit card companies are a wonderful bunch of caring humans. I can't stand most of them. I've been on the wrong side of those rate hikes for being a few days late. I'm still paying my way out of a big hole that was dug during my previous marriage. Even with my credit rating not so attractive, I still get pre-approved offers. The way I deal with all of the problems of having a bad credit rating is not borrowing money. Jeff Martin My Blog

Car insurance?
I've found that they will wave those extra fees if you have them auto-draft your checking account. I missed the part where you said something about my post pissed you off. It was probably because I called you a whiner. Anyone who pulls out the tired "the rich vs the poor" argument is just whining. When the media talks about tax breaks and uses "the rich", they are talking about us. I would bet a large portion of U.S. CodeProject users fall into that category. Local credit union vs. a Multinational BankSo you are saying being poor automatically equals bad credit? When I was poor (working my way through college with a family), I had perfect credit because I didn't borrow money I couldn't pay back. My credit rating didn't drop until I went through a divorce and by then I was well beyond poor. You pay more in fees and rates when you have bad credit because you are a greater risk. Do credit card companies charge exorbitant rates? Do they practice predatory lending targeting those with bad credit? Yes, they do. But guess what? It's a voluntary transaction. You don't have to take those higher charges on credit cards or loan rates. Don't borrow the money. As for banks charging NSFs, that's both a cost recovery method and a punititve measure. If you regularly bounce checks, they are trying to stop you from doing that by charging you more. You can't behave in an irresponsible manner and then whine about the penalty. Jeff Martin My Blog
