Do any of you use an auto wallpaper changer, I am looking for some software but most of it out there is either crap or expensive shareware crap, are there any freeware/open source alternatives ?

Microsoft Power Toys XP add a clear and convenient "Slide swow" tab to Display properties. There you can specify a source folder, changing frequency, some parameters and that's it.

I could be completely wrong here as I have never used ASP.NET 2.0 but wasn't that one of the major good points of it... it produced standards compliant code.

Hm. I have HTML validator plugin plugged-into my Firefox. It show a small icon in the statusbar - red when there'are errors on the page, yellow for warnings without errors and green if x/html code of current page is fully ok. And while surfing the web, seing green "valid" icon is VERY rare thing, even for sites made with ASP.NET (BTW, according to my experience, the highest percent of correct sites is among those made with Ruby/Rails). Thats a pity, IMHO. But anyway I'm very glad that Microsoft finally has stopped perverting and agreed that there is a W3C existing and there are some conventional standards for the web.

  • Are Sp*mmers getting lazy?
    J Johnny Mnemonic

I wonder why isn't it possible to track the whole chain between sender (spammer) and target. Target host definitely should know from what host it had received a message, that second host should know such as well, etc. In this case, assuming all ISPs in the chain hate spammers and agree be part of anti-spam operation, we can submit spam-report to ISP which hosts our mailbox, that isp can send it to the next ISP in chain etc, and by this way spam-report will reach originating ISP, which can catch a spammer - its client, and if it (originating ISP) refuses, then it should be considered as spam-friendly ISP and blocked by higher level ISPs.

I Shift+Delete these bad boys, never open them, but by that time it's pointless, because it didn't bounce.

Does anybody know if it is possible to simulate bouncing? If that's technically possible, then, probably, mail hosters such as GMail, Yahoo, etc should bounce (absolutely similar to the case if mailbox doesn't exist) messages, which user explicitly ratifies as spam. Maybe we should submit such feature suggestions to our mail services?

Wanted to write a coupla freewares obviously i cant do that ...

IMHO, you should not f-ck your mind with any licenses. Just write your freeware and throw it to the Net. I suppose those who'll get your free proggies won't go and ask you about your licenses, yet if they're not mad. IMHO one should worry about licenses in the only one case - when he'd like to sell something. When you develop some software for enterprise, or some shareware to earn some bucks, then - be so kind to share some revenue with creators of tools you use. And if you develop some stuff for youself/friends/community - dont worry, be happy ;-)

Have you looked in eD2k p2p network? I suppose, with big probability, you'll find it there.

  • Programming standards...no flaming please!
    J Johnny Mnemonic

"Things should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler." -- Albert Einstein My oppinion is that good developer should not ever directly think about the number of lines , number of classes, and other such things. He should develop a good, effective, usable classes. If some function, to accomplish it's function has to be long, let it be, but only while that function's function is a single strict logical unit. One should consider refactoring if he founds that a function does more than it should, not that it is just longer or shorter than ordinary.

  • Java IDE's?
    J Johnny Mnemonic

What other IDE's are there for java and is there anyone of those which feels atleast a bit like VS.NET ? 3 great Java IDES are 1. Sun NetBeans IDE (free, os) - http://www.netbeans.org/ 2. IBM Eclipse (free, os) - http://www.eclipse.org/ 3. JetBrains IntelliJ Idea (commercial) http://www.jetbrains.com/ As for speed, maybe you have a very small (less than 512 MB) RAM? I recommend at least 768 (3x256), or better 1 GB for comfortable C# and Java development.
