  • Laptop keyboard layouts
    K Kizul Emeraldfire

I've found that using KeyTweak is a tremendous help when I get a laptop that has a keyboard layout that has just a few keys positioned where I don't want them. :) Theoretically, you could use it to rearrange the entirety of your laptop's keyboard's keys (changing it to DVORAK or AZERTY, et cetera); keep in mind, though, that any external keyboards you use will also have their layouts modified.

What Kristian said, and also Flashblock. Flashblock gets a little annoying at times, but once you add all the most crucial sites to its whitelist, it's very, very, VERY lovely. At least to me. :p

    I personally use 9pt Fixedsys — failing that, 11pt Courier New. Fixed-width font is <3. :)

  • Question about Windows's "Default Beep", and other sound events
    K Kizul Emeraldfire

Hm, sounds pretty much exactly like the OPPOSITE of what I was wanting, but helpful — because all I have to do is set everything to 1/on/yes/enabled; thank you. :D By the way, on the Driver tab for 'Beep Properties' (from the Device Manager), in the drop-down list for 'Startup Type' — what do the different options mean, besides 'Disabled'? There are Automatic, Boot, Demand, and System (followed by Disabled)? It had previously been set to 'System'; I'd sorta like to know what they all do, though.

  • Question about Windows's "Default Beep", and other sound events
    K Kizul Emeraldfire

Hm. Well, do you know of anything that I might be able to use to tweak the Windows sound events further than Windows's built-in thing will? Sadly, TweakUI and Tweaker 2001 only do so much…

  • Question about Windows's "Default Beep", and other sound events
    K Kizul Emeraldfire

Wasn't sure exactly where to put this, but this seemed about the best place as it has nothing to do with programming (unless you worked on Windows, in which case…). My question is, would it be possible to set 'Default Beep' (or any other Windows sound event) to beep the computer's internal speaker, the one that plays the POST beeps? I use a Dell Inspiron 2100 laptop, and there's no volume wheel for the speakers, so I have to use Windows's Volume Control in order to change the volume for things. However, it doesn't seem to affect the internal speaker's volume, which I find handy for certain alerts. Anyway — any ideas? Registry hacks are welcome, if available.

  • Anyone still use the Classic appearance? [modified]
    K Kizul Emeraldfire

On this computer, Windows XP SP3 with the Windows Classic appearance. Was also using the Windows Classic color scheme, but changed it to Rainy Day after someone else in this thread mentioned it. :) On my OWN computer (this one I'm currently using is a shared comp), I've also got Windows XP SP3 with the Windows Classic appearance, but I use my own colorful Desktop Themes on it — they match the astrological signs/colors and stuff, an I change them every month to match the current astrological month. :) If people were interested in them I'd link to them, but unfortunately the site I hosted them on is dead. :(

  • Is It Possible For Fingers To Become Dyslexic?
    K Kizul Emeraldfire

I've always been a slight bit dyslexic when it comes to typing — as evidenced tiem after time (that was on purpose, incidentally). I've also done 'teh' a lot, but I can manage to correct 'teh' and 'tiem' most of the time. Recently, however, I've noticed that my fingers have taken up spelling anything that has the letters 'ua' in that order as 'au' — rendering 'actually' as 'actaully'. It MIGHT just be my keyboard, but it's STILL annoying.

  • You know you've been hanging around Code Project too much when...
    K Kizul Emeraldfire

Pff, it's not like it matters much anyway — it's not the people's votes that count, it's the number of votes the doofuses get from the Electoral College. Which, when you think about it, is really rather dumb — shouldn't the Electoral Votes only be used to decide a tiebreaker or something from the results of the votes coming in from the precincts? What's the point in people voting in each state if, no matter which candidate gets the majority of the precinct votes, it's the person with the most electoral votes that gets elected?

  • Best language to use for programming PC games?
    K Kizul Emeraldfire

I tried DarkBasic — it was too confusing to me. x.x I couldn't make anything with it. :( I think I might've heard of Blitz Basic, but I've not tried it — I'll give it a look. I just looked at the GarageGames site for Torque — it looks pretty good, but ouch! A hundred bucks to be able to really use it! :wtf: I'll take a closer look at it, though. It's probably worth the hundred. Also, I should've specified in my first post: the game that I'm wanting to make is 2-D — so 3-D languages need not apply! :)

  • Best language to use for programming PC games?
    K Kizul Emeraldfire

I'm not really sure if this is the right forum to be posting this question in (and if it isn't, please move it), but — what is the best language to use for programming a game for the PC? I have an idea for a game that I think would really be quite awesome, but the problem is: I have no money to hire a coder — I somehow doubt that they'd want to do it for free. I know exactly how I want things to look and act, but I know zilch programming languages (maybe 0.5% of one, if you count what I know of 6502 assembly and another fraction of a percent if you count HamsterSpeak scripting* as an experience in C-something — they seem similar). So I ask: what's the best language for a complete newbie to learn for making a game? I was thumbing through info on PyGame earlier today; not sure what to think about it yet, though. *Do a search for the O.H.R.RPG.C.E. — that'll tell you more coherently about it than I can.

  • Sci-fi movies
    K Kizul Emeraldfire

You all have shocked and appalled me. All of these movies, and yet no mention of TRON, or The Last Starfighter? You have no love for some of the '80s classics. Ha ha ha, disregard that — I suck code. Curse me for not reading the entire thread before posting — I thought I HAD; I hadn't realized there was more than one page. My two all-time faves are the two above in that order, followed by Explorers — while Explorers wasn't the BEST movie ever (particularly for the '80s), I always liked the (what I presume to be) indestructible, air-tight, digital forcefield. I want to be able to duplicate that circuitboard and make that thing. tl;dr: What would I add? * TRON * The Last Starfighter * Explorers * Paycheck * The Matrix (it was pretty cool -- the sequels were meh, but the first was awesome) * The Time Machine (the newer one with Brent Spiner, specifically) * The War of the Worlds (another classic) That's about all I can think of. For the moment. :)
