If all goes well,.. we will be launching some new technology in a few weeks. Come to think of it, it might happen in less than two. With it I would like some flash introductions to some of our features. We are new, and have no bank yet or none of that, don't get your hopes up that you'll get rich. BUT, if you know how to do flash, we could really use someone to make some intro's for it. For now, all that we can give you in return, is credit where credit is due. If you want to know what it is all about, look at this post -> http://www.devmaster.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=1582 Ever seen the lead in for Microsoft Games? It is an avi, little clouds, and the word Microsoft in white comes out at you through the clouds? Well if you know what I am talking about, then you have an idea of what kind of flash I am looking for. Anyone interested in making a few for me? If so, I will send you the images needed. Software LicensingI guess we shall see then shall we. ;) P.S. Oh, by the way, It's already running, we are just protecting ourselves before we release it. ;P Syphic.com Get ready, a new revolution of game play is comming. Multiplayer 8 users? Screw that, try 60,000 users.

Software LicensingThat is already in effect (just in beta). But, what if we wanted the online 3d engine to be opensource? For say, a person to develop the ability to have streaming audio for sound effects? I could retain an patent I guess, then our license would be inforcable... But what other ways are there of protecting ourselves. More importantly, how do you make a license, and how do you make it legit? Syphic.com Get ready, a new revolution of game play is comming. Software LicensingI need help on this one. The GNU GPL protects open source software. But it is not what I need. I need an open source, license, where we control the execution of the program. We have developed our own "Language" that works on almost all browsers. It allowed us to create the first ever, Real time statagy, 100% Browswer Based, Appletless, Zero Downloads required, 3d game engine. Just like WarCraft and StarCraft. We want to open the source code up, but only for Improvements on the engine. -We will allow free distrobution of all source code. -We will allow everyone to use the code, on their severs to test new mods. -Using CVS we will implement good mods into the latest version of the engine. We will not chage to play games, or to write them, with our web based game creator. What we don't want is people using the software to run games from any other servers but ours. How do we protect ourselves? Can we make up our own License? How would one do that if so? I could really use some help here. :confused:

Hello CodeProject.comLOL, actually yes, as with all my other sites, I build in spell checkers. LOSTTWARE.com My site allows for people to develop private programming teams, with password protected forums for each team.

Hello CodeProject.comOh, yes, you may use it unless a copyright is posted. If you don't see one on a definition then don't worry about it. LOSTTWARE.com My site allows for people to develop private programming teams, with password protected forums for each team.

Hello CodeProject.comPlease realize, this is not a site that could or would be an invation. CodeProject has articles, examples, and you can download files from to help you learn the code. CodeDictionary is ONLY a dictionary. No articles, no examples, no downloading of files. Just a simple little definition. Hello CodeProject.comWell since we are all so very concerened with this, I did speak to CodeProject in Ontario on the phone about a month ago, they said put the site up and we will see how it turns out first. I didn't think that would matter to everyone here but I guess I was wrong. Also I am confused, we (the 12 of us at CodeDictionary) haven't even voted yet on if we are going to ask the webmaster of CodeProject, about joining up. It is just an Idea that has been tossed around. But if I understand you right, you are saing that I should ask his permision, to include in a post, the fact that we are considering, asking him about linking to him... Wow, you guy's sure are giving me a hard time about this. I have used codeproject.com for a year and a half, I am not knew around here. I have also published two articles about the site and it's use to college students. One in a newspaper, and one in a college journal at UCSD. I find it odd that everyone is dragging out the whole "you didn't ask the webmaster for permision thing." This is the lounge for crying out loud, what if I wanted to ask everyones opinion on asking the webmaster something here in the lounge, should I email him first and get his permision? Wow. Hello CodeProject.comWhat? No one person or company owns the rights to a language. Take for example English, you have Websters and Merrian. How many sites do you see with tutorials out there for HTML? Do they all pay money to the HTML owners to publish information about that language? How's about VC, you have Microsoft Visual C++ and Borland Visual C++, do I pay to both companies to write about them? I think you missed the point of the site. It is an information archive, a "Dictionary" of defenitions. We are not stealing the defenitions from any other copyrighted source either. Each defenition is in the unique words of the user that put it into our database, they of course all run on a rating system, much like the articles here do. If we find a definition with a low rating, we will scrap it, and find a better one for that piece of code. No, we have not thought about the copyrights, because there are none. We are not plagerizing or paraphrasing the information from anyone else, if you looked at our site you would realize that right now, out of the few definitions we do have, each gives credit to the respective author who imput that definition into our site. Hello CodeProject.comYou are loosing site of the purpose of my post. In my responces, and the orginal post, yes I have wrote what our future plans might be on trying to link with CodeProject. That was a might, I did not ask the members here to vote on if we should or tell everyone that we were going to. I would have the courtesy, and brains, to discuss something of that nature with the webmaster of this site first. The purpose of this post was to try to find programmers (which I could probebly do at this site) to help us build up our database (which I shouldn't need anyone's permision to ask for help). I mearly spelled out what our plans might be, as a courtesy to those who would consider helping us out, so that they knew who we are, where we are comming from, and what they would be getting themselves into. Oddly, I have yet to see one responce saying, "Sorry I am too busy," or, "Sure, I'll help, I know this language or that." Maybe this wasn't the right place to ask for help. Hello CodeProject.comWell thanks for that info, I count 12 people on our team. I know it isn't close to the size of CodeProject.com, but it surely isn't an "I." LOSTTWARE.com My site allows for people to develop private programming teams, with password protected forums for each team.

Hello CodeProject.comWell, for one, we do not wish to become "competition" for CodeProject. I swear by this site myself. I use CodeProject's resources almost daily. I think what we need indeed is a mission statment. Basically I can forsee the two sites being complements to one another. Where CodeProject gives outstanding examples, on how to use a code, functions, or entire applications (you guy's have zip files). Our site would only be a quicky reference site. Many times while using a downloaded zip file from this site I would come accross another command or function that I did not know what exactly it did. CodeDictionary is to be just that. A quick refrence site to simply look up a single snippet of code. Be it "
" in html, or "include" in php, it is only a dictionary. With a small, short, to the point definition of what that code does. Further more, I noticed that one of our moderators has put an entire page as a description. Damn near an article. I feel myself that that much rather belongs at a site like this. I would like to build a search engine for CP into CD and hopefully one day Vice/Versa. Pointless now, untill our databases are up to par, and we have all of the bugs worked out. We have only been open two days. ;) Also I see no point in a message board for discussing code, when this one functions just fine. I would like to direct all of our traffic this way for that, (hopefully with the favor returned). Once our code is loaded into our dictionary's database, we are looking into allowing people to click on a word and search CP for further information on it if they so desire. On that note, I hope I have answered your questions. I appreaciate them, as they bring to my attention things I should clear up at out site. -- Josh One of CodeDictionary's Webmasters. Hello CodeProject.comWe are opening a little brother site to The Code Project. Once we are up we would like to link to your message boards over here, instead of trying to reinvent the wheel. We are in need of... input. We would like some programmers to help us build up are archives. Any language will do, if you know a language we don't have, let us know and we will probably add if for you. What I am asking for is volunteers for moderators, and people who can contribute code definitions. Respectfully, CodeDictionary.com http://www.codedictionary.com LOSTTWARE.com My site allows for people to develop private programming teams, with password protected forums for each team.

SQL / PHP ProblemI don't know if I should put this under php or sql, but it is a little of both. I have secure info that I do not want published to a file on the server at any time even a few seconds. I just want to take it strait out of the data base and have the person click a link, to this php file below and when they go to it it prompts them to download. I want the sql info in the file. I think I have most of the code right, but it isn't quite working. As of now, it is downloading a blank file.
function show_file_information($filename) { @readfile($filename); } if(!class_exists(MySQL)) { require '../home/MySQL.php'; require '../home/conf_global.php'; $mysql = new MySQL(); $mysql->connect($INFO['sql_user'],$INFO['sql_pass'],$INFO['sql_database'],$INFO['sql_host']); } $news_result = $mysql->query("SELECT * FROM newsletters WHERE id='1'"); $news = mysql_fetch_assoc($news_result); $filename = $news['add_id']; header("Pragma: public"); header("Expires: 0"); header("Cache-Control: must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0"); header("Content-Type: application/force-download"); header("Content-Type: application/octet-stream"); header("Content-Type: application/download"); header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=".basename(emaillist).".txt"); header("Content-Transfer-Encoding: binary"); header("Content-Length: ".strlen($filename)); //@readfile("$filename"); ?>
