Good question. Guess that's why the English language is one of the hardest to learn.

I've been hearing good things from the UK about Battlestar. I've been waiting patiently for a while. I also just heard they have already commissioned 6 new eps for next season.

  • Sci Fi
    M markstu

Any sci fi fans out there? Just curious. I've recently been getting back into it a bit. Watching some Stargate and waiting on Battlestar Galactica which starts on Friday. Remember the old series? Anyway, what are you fans of...sci fi movies, tv?

  • VOIP Phone service
    M markstu

Has anyone heard anything about the city-wide wifi that some cities are looking into. I think I read that Philly may be looking into it first. I wonder how this will affect voip and if it will allow more people to get hooked up to it.

I normally turn it off everyday. I have been wondering lately what it can do to your power on device constantly using the on/off button.

That is unbelievable. It's really scary seeing it from the amateur video. That's crazy.

International calling was def one thing I had to consider. The reason I chose Sunrocket is because they seemed to have a good allowance of international minutes per month before the charges set in. And the rates were competitive, if not better, anyway.

Seems like it would be useful, if you need that kind of thing for personal use. It's actually kind of amazing.

  • Camera for my dad
    M markstu

hmm...waterproof is hard to find. I would go with something like a Canon or Olympus that at least doesn't leave its lens exposed when off. But, I would also say that if he is going to be using it while fishing and he wants to get some action shots, you may want to try to find something that takes less time to record the picture to the memory card. I have a great Canon that I got a good deal on at Staples a while back, but with this particular model, I think it takes too long for the image to record on the card and sometimes you miss the picture. You should go check them out in store and shoot pictures yourself to see how fast they take.

Funny enough, I heard the soundtrack to the Spongebob has some decent songs. I haven't checked it out myself. Might be a good flick for the family.

  • VOIP Phone service
    M markstu

I went with a provider called SunRocket a couple of months ago. We've been very pleased so far. I got in before they were offering this deal, but I think now you can pay for the full year up front and it comes out to like $17/month. That includes unlimited national calling and a pretty good allowance of international minutes per month. They offer that deal risk free, so if you do not like it you can get out immediately and not be stuck.

  • weekend plans
    M markstu

We went out and got our Christmas tree last weekend too. Glad to get it. I always enjoy that trip. This weekend I start going to a crap load of Christmas parties. Should be fun but busy. We'll see. Last week we did a lot of shopping too. Got a few people knocked out. Got my neice and nephew these little toys called bed buggs. My dad got a little fanny pack from LL bean. My sister got a gift card to staples, for all her teaching supplies. Only a few more people I'm really worried about, including my mom and brother. We'll see how that goes.

  • How far to drive for a customer?
    M markstu

Potential customers will always remember the extra effort when looking into what product to go with. If you make the effort and give a good presentation, and even if they do not decide to go with you, they might refer you to somebody else.

    The Lounge sales question

  • skype.com
    M markstu

Good point on the customer service issue. I know people who have had some problems with customer service in the past with larger VOIP providers. I think the problems exist from these companies losing sight of what is going on and thinking they have become succesful. Customer service is going to be extremely important to me and I will not go with a provider until I am convinced they will provide me with satisfactory customer support...especially since the technology is so new and everyone is so new to the technology. Hopefully more and more of the companies popping up will put a focus on this and really work to make good on promises. I can already see it in one or two of the companies we are looking at as of now, and from conversations with them and their willingness to answer questions about their services, I don't have any reason not to believe I will be treated fairly. We'll see soon enough.

I've got a dell leather case too. That thing is pretty awesome. Durable for sure. I actually bought mine from a co worker. I looked around a little bit and found a good selction at the Staples site and a couple other places, but this guy was selling his for REAL cheap.

I hear you. I've been struggling with that as well, although I think I am going to go ahead and test the waters. It seems that some of the problems these companies were having with the technology in the last 6 months or a year have been resolved. Price is still low, and reliability doesn't seem to be much of an issue. We live in the Washington, DC area and just heard about this company called SunRocket that we may go with. Cheap price. Seemingly good customer service from what we've experienced so far. We'll see how it turns out, but I'm optimistic. What specific "problems" are the root of your hesitation?...just to make sure I'm seeing the full picture.

    M markstu

oohhh...is that covered in the warranty? I'm going to try to get a new memory card I think. I feel inadequate that I've only got a 128 mb card.... where have you guys found the best deals on stuff like this? I know cmk mentioned Amazon, but do you guys ever find any deals at the staples, best buys, and circuit cities of the world?

  • Upgrading dgital cameras
    M markstu

Thanks for the advice. Certainly glad to know that my SLR Nikon lenses won't fit the 5700. The more I think about it and put some answers to your question, the more I realize I might want to just go with the D70. That's a camera I can really keep for a while and one with which I can be very versatile. I am very interested in prints as well, more so than simply emailing and posting the images on the web, so it sounds like I have some of the same concerns as you. I could probably stand to wait until tax season too, but we'll see...
