The silver reflects heat radiation from your body back in the tent keeping you warmer. A dark color absorbs more sunlight warming the tent during the day. Putting the reflective side up will cool the tent in during the day. I'm not sure how effective the silver will be at keeping heat in, but it should work well at keeping the tent cool during the day much like those reflective car window shades. It is. I'm lucky to be 6 storeys up. I did look at another flat that was on the 10th storey of one building. It was a nice building and they were in the process of regenerating the area, but until they completed the regeneration the street level was terrible. There was a strip club right across the street and it looked like the pub next door to it was approaching violent at 7 on a Wednesday evening. All that will be gone in 2 years, but until then I just didn't want the hassle. Even for a view directly down the river.
