You can change the delay for the auto-complete dialog. Just open the preferences and you will see it. Regarding the Add a class dialog: Eclipse doesn't force you to add superclass information or anything else. You don't even know what you are talking about. You can simply type the class name, hit enter and there you go: you are in your new class code with no superclasses or anything. Having these options doesnt make the IDE junk - it makes it better. Eclipse is one of the best editors out there and honestly VS IDE probably doesn't even have 1/10th of the functionality of Eclipse. Once you get used to Eclipse, you will hate VS with passion. But of course, there are people who test it for about 10 minutes and then decide that one of the most popular and powerful IDEs out there is a junk. Mustafa Demirhan http://www.macroangel.com

New development tool ideas?Refactoring support for C++ in Visual Studio IDE would be absolutely great. I wouldnt mind paying a fortune for it. Java has great tools for that (Eclipse and Intelli IDEA) but C++ has none unfortunately. Mustafa Demirhan http://www.macroangel.com

Google does Python....Actually Python is not that bad in terms of performance. Generally, the tests show that its performance is close to Java's or C# performance. Also, you can write the performance critical parts of your program in C/C++. Its integration with C++ is sooo good that you can use the regular C++ classes in your Python program easily. Simply import the C++ DLL and then use the classes in the DLL like regular Python classes. Also, there are some very large projects written in Python (e.g. Zope). Python is quite useful for large scale projects too. Mustafa Demirhan http://www.macroangel.com

Google does Python....Actually it does have namespaces. The namespace is the filename (and foldernames if any) itself. For example, if you want to call function X in file mylib.py, you do this
import mylib mylib.X ()
or, similar to "using namespace" in C++, you can do this:from mylib import * (or from mylib import X) X()
You should have looked at this very elegant language more before tossing it out. It has all the feautures that anyone can want form a language. I dont think it lacks any features of C++ or Java or C#. It is much more pleasant to code in Python than to code in any other language in my opinion. It also have a very good integration with C++ and Java (Jython) - so you can write some parts of your code in C++/Java and some other parts in Python. The only thing that I dont like in Python is the lack of a good GUI framework. It supports wxWindows via wxPython, it also has support for Tk and Gtk I guess but none of these frameworks are really satisfactory in Windows - also they dont have a good GUI builder or an IDE that supports GUI stuff. Anyway, I have been using Python for quite some time and I really love this language. You should give it another try. Mustafa Demirhan http://www.macroangel.com

Buying my first laptop!Sorry, my bad. I did not mean that Centrino is a processor :-O I work at Intel and I should have been more careful about my company's products :) Ok, let me put it this way then: Centrino mobile technology allows extended battery life and smaller designs. Power management options in Centrino provides 2 or 3 times more battery life in most usage scenarios. hotlemonade wrote: A laptop with a pentium-m and a third party 802.11x adapter has just as good battery life as a centrino based laptop with better 802.11x adapters (in theory) That is correct. The advantage of Centrino laptops is that they use Pentium-M processors, instead of 4M processors. There is a very significant difference between these two in terms of battery life. Anyway, thanks for corrections... Mustafa Demirhan http://www.macroangel.com

Buying my first laptop!I would recommend IBM Thinkpad's with Centrino processors but they are a little pricey. But in any case, you definately should get a WiFi enabled laptop. If you are going to use it at the UNI, the uni most probably provides wireless access and you can connect to the net even when you are in the library, student center, ..etc. Lastly, I think that Centrino chips are quite good in terms of battery performance. I had one non-centrino thinkpad (T30) and the battery life was about 2.5 hours. Now, the ones with centrino chips (T40) are smaller and the battery life is about 8 hours. hosting service gripe...I used to use ReadyHosting.com but they had problems with their ASP server all the time and their servers were inaccessible from some countries like Turkey. I switched to Hostony.com and I am extremely happy with the service. Their support is the best support I have ever seen. Most of the trouble tickets are answered within 30 minutes. They have 24 hour live support through ICQ and AIM. I didnt remember any server crashes for the last 6-7 months. All in all, I strongly recommend Hostony to everybody. PS: They offer a special deal these days. If you are planning to change your hosting company, you shouldnt miss it... Mustafa Demirhan http://www.macroangel.com

language conversionEven learning Russian alphabet scared me, I guess learning Chinese alphabet would be fun ;) But you are absolutely right. Knowing Chinese for Europeans and Americans will be very valuable in short/medium term I guess. But I dont think I need to do outsourcing when I go back to Turkey :) It is not as cheap as China, but still much cheaper than US... Oh by the way, I would love to understand those chinese crack sites that cracked the old version of my program. I would have kicked their asses ;) Mustafa Demirhan http://www.macroangel.com

Well, I thought it would be cool to learn a fourth language. ;) I am still young and I want to learn as much as I can before it is too late :rolleyes: But I am open to other suggestions too: I thought about Spanish at first. But to be honest, I did not like that language. When my Spanish friends talk, all I hear is RRRRRRRRRRRR :) But please guys, this is not for offense. Just my sincere thoughts. Then I thought Russian may be a fine choice. Then I got scared cause I even need to learn a new alphabet. Apart from that, there is the beautiful French. But I heard that it is much harder to learn French then German :~ Moreover, as an Electrical Engineer, German may be more useful for me. But I am open to suggestions. Will Linux takeover Microsoft?I strongly disagree. Wordperfect and Lotus ruled some time ago, but they couldn't catch up with Microsoft. Microsoft did not copy. Instead, those companies were so slow to copy MSs innovations! About Linux vs Windows: Well, this is a completely stupid discussion. Everybody have a taste. Personally, I never liked Linux. I use Linux for most of the time, however I still hate it. My Windows XP Prof. crashed only once for the last 2 months. However, my freaking Redhat Linux 9 crashes at least twice everyday. Also, it has been more than 1.5 years since I reinstalled Windows. Isn't this a quite good performance? I don't think that there are important security issues in WinXP. Even if there are some, I am using Norton Internet Security and I really dont care about the rest. Mustafa Demirhan http://www.macroangel.com

Need Free Web Hosting Account with 500 MB disk spaceI used ReadyHosting for about 2 years but in the end I switched to another company - Hostony.com There are a few reasons: * Download speed of ReadyHosting is not very good. * Up time sucks. Especially the ASP part works only about 60% of the time. * The support was good in the beginning. But in the middle of my subscription, the sales department accused me of not paying my bill. That was ridicilous. I paid $99 for 1 year but after 6 months they told me that I have to pay again. I tried showed them my bank statement as a proof, but they stopped responding. After a long time, they opened up my account again, but that was too late. I already switched to another company. * ReadyHosting does not work in some countries. For example, when I went back to Turkey for a vacation, I realized that *none* of the web pages hosted on ReadyHosting works in Turkey. I tried it at least on 10 different machines in 3-4 different cities, but no chance. It does not work... Anyway, now I am using Hostony.com. It is much better than readyhosting. The support is marvelous. They have 24 hour live support (using ICQ). Mustafa Demirhan http://www.macroangel.com

-1 % of file downloaded.Yup. I used it some time ago, before I formatted my hard drive. It is much better than Netscape. I admit it. But IE is really much better than any browsers around. May be it is just because I am so used to IE :confused: Mustafa Demirhan http://www.macroangel.com

In Ten Minutes...Well, this is too late I guess. Just one warning: Install the WinXp first and RedHat last. WinXp messes up with the master boot sector, so it is better to install it first. The Grub Loader of Redhat it really nice and can find any operating systems. Thus if you install it the last, the Grub Boot Loader will allow you to boot all of those operating systems without any painful setup process... Mustafa Demirhan http://www.macroangel.com

-1 % of file downloaded.Netscape??? Pehhhh. Netscape is the biggest piece of sh** I have ever seen :mad: God, that stupid program is so irreponsive to the user commands and it makes me sick. But I have to use it during the work hours because of another crap: Linux. Gooddd, please have pity on me :rolleyes: Don't make me suffer from Linux anymore :eek: But seriously, these two sh**s are killing me. I can code 2 times faster in Windows. Fortunately, my employer accepted to pay $50,000 per year for 1 OPNET license and hopefully I will start using OPNET next week. No more Linux, Netscape and NS. Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Bandwidth AdviceYou should also check the SDSL and other DSL options. ADSL is asymmetric and for example in your case, the upload speed is 4 times less than the download speed. May be you can find a 1024K/1024K SDSL service with the same price and it would be much more suitable for your needs. Mustafa Demirhan http://www.macroangel.com

The worst articles everI totally agree. Also, the moderators should be choosen among the well known CPians to prevent the abuse of that job. But if for example, 10% of the moderators accept the article, then I guess it would be enough.
