Hi Rama, I am looking to see if such a thing already exists that we can download. If there isn't anything out there, then we'll develop something from scratch. Thanks. Nick

Thanks Dylan... I could certainly do that but we're a bit limited in terms of time. Would you know of any downloadable products that do this? Nick

Hi chaps, The company I am contracting for, have a client who are after an online test solution. I have been supplied with what they are after on paper and I am not too sure how to go about it. The website will display a cicuit diagram with a number of "pieces" underneath that the user can drag and drop into the correct places. They will be awarded points for each correct placement. The problem is the client doesn't have state of the art PC's and they're running old versions of Explorer, certainly no newer than version 4. Any ideas? I have been hunting around for java applets and so on but have not come up with anything. Any help would be appreciated :) Nick

Thanks for the info Nish, I shall try Xitami out... I have done some research and for the benefit of everyone here... XP Home Edition doesn't have PWS or IIS you must either buy Pro in the first place or upgrade to it.

    N NickLewis

Hi guys, I have installed .NET Beta 2 and I am having a little bit of a problem... I am running XP Home Edition, which installed ok and runs very well. However I don't have any form of Personal Web Server or IIS installed. I am familiar with PWS from windows 98 and IIS in relation to NT 4.0. Question is should I really switch from the Home Edition of XP to the Pro version? Or is there something I can download/buy to install a Web Server on my machine? I really am eager to play around with .NET, as I am a freelancer who needs to keep up-to-date with this stuff. Hope someone can help out, Nick Lewis

  • How to get a *Job* an old idea !
    N NickLewis

Go to an interview and answer every question with, "Cut the b*******t, give me the godamn job, I am the best.", in a Robert De Niro accent. Then laugh. If they laugh too, then you've lightened the mood and show that you are in a jovial frame of mind. Err, I haven't tried this but it might amuse them. Anyway, I know what its like to be out of work, I am at the moment.... sigh...

No snow down in Hampshire, it keeps missing us... Still I am going to austria next month, so plenty of snow there...

  • What's the weather like?
    N NickLewis

Here in Hampshire, England - Its flippin cold. Lots of frost and some areas have had snow. I envy you Chris, I want to be somewhere warm! Mind you I work better in the winter because it takes my mind off how cold I feel. In the summer and especially when there is a heat wave, my mind tends to drift too much, as I start thinking of sitting outside in the sun, holidays in France, playing golf and women wearing less.... (sorry, getting carried away with myself there).

  • David Wulff versus British Telecommunications PLC.

Why do people bother with BT Internet? I gave up on them ages ago because I was lucky to even get a connection and when I did it would be slow or cut me off after 10 minutes. I can recall some guy at Tech support telling me to check that my phone line was plugged in and whether the cable was too long or bad quality.... I told him that my system was setup correctly and that I was better educated than him and that he and his lovely company could stuff it up their.... So I cancelled my subscription... A few days later something came through in my other email account, asking me why I had decided to cancel??? Huh!! I didn't bother replying, I had lost the will to live by this time! Nick

I have done that before and it doesn't work. Women prefer to hear it straight from the horses mouth (or so to speak!). Seriously, just tell her how you feel, as someone else said she'll either tell you where to go or she'll love you for being honest. Honesty is the key. The reason I am telling you this, is that I was in the same situation earlier this year and I let it drag out too long. the girl in question was soon "snapped up" by another girl. I talked to her about these things afterwards by which time I was too late. This screwed our friendship up and I now don't speak to her anymore. Which is sad... This scenario does sound spookily similar. I think this girl values your friendship and she befriended you at a time that things with her boyfriend were obviously not too good. Its hard to judge but the best thing to do is to ask her. Nick "The Love Doctor"

  • Advice on freelancing required
    N NickLewis

I need some advice on freelancing, especially for someone (like myself) based in the UK. I have just been made redundant by my firm and am tired of being messed around like I have for some time. I have a number of skills and feel that freelancing is the way to go, so that I put them to better use and learn a lot more along the way. If anybody can give me a few pointers, I would be grateful. I am pretty much aware of the main pros and cons. It would be handy to talk to someone, who has "been there before" and can help me on my way. ;) Thanks in advance.

Its all hype when they use exciting blurb like, "Think forwards and you go in that direction". Its the wow factor that'll have many people reaching for their cheque books and believe you me there are a lot of people with more money than sense in this world. The segway is innovative though, I give it a thumbs up for that but I very much doubt it will succeed in terms of practicality.
