Yeah, the box has a variable speed fan system, I'm thinking it's not the fan itself, I've looked in task manager to check if anythings whacking the CPU, nothing jumps out at me

Yeah, thats the conclusion I came to, thinking about it I figured I'm not doing 64bit dev and my customers aren't either, at least having bought a 64bit bit box I can when I need to :-)

Ta for the info, the question I'm trying to answer is, as a developer machine without needing 8GB support, is x64 actually worth installing or should I stick with the 32bit version

I've got a choice, install Vista Business x32 or x64 If I choose x64, am I limiting myself in terms of additional hardware/drivers Is x64 that much better (at least on a 2GB x64 dual core processor laptop)

Perhaps I'm approaching that cynical time of life, but politics and democracy just don't seem to work these days, politicians it seems to me, enter it based on the gravy train principal and for the career, rather than to do some actual good.

Sadly that's all that seems to be going on, well that and empire building. Yer know, maybe I've read 1984 or Brave New World too many times, or read too many Sci-Fi Noir novels but it's getting harder to not see parallels in these "interesting times" we're living in X| God help me, I'm even looking at Star Wars as a sub-text for the gradual erosion of every day taken for granted liberties  I think I need a holiday
