  • Extending the Blog Aggregator to Publish to Tips/Tricks Section?
    P Philipp Sumi

I didn't publish most of my blog posts to CP for the simple reason that I didn't think the posts would pass as articles, mainly because they are rather snippets (e.g. http://www.hardcodet.net/2010/02/blocking-httpwebrequest-getresponse-for-silverlight[^]). However, seeing there's a dedicated section for this kind of content on CP: What would you think about having the option to publish our posts to Tips/Tricks section instead? Cheers, Philipp

This is the second time I read people comparing to Clacton to nothingness. Oh my... Luckily, we're a few guys, we have a nice garden, the beach and a car. In theory, it should be possible to survive these two weeks without dying of boredom. If there's nothing else there, the area must be swarming with bored girls, too, right? ;)

The guys I'm travelling with are attending a seminar in Colchester - it's not that we're *that* excited about the location. However, the course only takes two weeks - after that, we'll move for sure :) Edit: Is it really that bad?

I'll go into one of those shops and hope for a decent recommendation. Guess they won't throw in a netbook for a one-time buy for a month's worth of online time (cheap ba****ds) ;)

We're in Clacton-on-Sea which looks quite crowded. I looked at the coverage tests of some of the providers - fortunately, we'll be fine. Cheers!

Thanks for the tips and the link! :) Buying the thing online is not an option anyway, at least for Orange: They require you to have had a resident address in the UK for three years - that's about three years too much. I guess we'll do as your telling and just look for one of those shops. We'll be spending the first two weeks in Clacton on Sea near Colchester. It's not exactly a metropole down there, but I hope we'll be fine :)

Thanks for the link, Richard. There's only two hotels in the area that offer a hotspot, so I'll have to pass on that one. That's the nice thing with the dongle - in theory, it should work pretty much anywhere on the island.

It's the latter, and we have an appartment without access to the interwebs, so we'll just have to hope it'll work. Otherwise, I'll have to live in the nearest Starbucks.

Thanks, Henry Orange offers upgrade plans, which aren't too expensive. I'll have to consider that one (or make sure that my mates don't download too much pr0n through my connection) ;)

We'll have a nice appartment at the coast, so there's probably no McD around (although I have no idea about the fast food density in the UK). But nice knowing - we'll sure hit a few citites along the way :)

Hello UK-CPians Me and a few colleagues will be spending a while in the UK, and being able to get online with the notebook is rather essential (for the first two weeks, we'll have an appartment in Clacton-on-Sea near Colchester and I'll be working part time from there). I thought of buying one of those USB sticks with a months worth of online time. With Orange, this would add up to 50 pounds, which seems to look like a great offer with no strings attached (makes me somewhat suspicious): Orange Dongle Whether I'll be able to just walk into an Orange shop, get me the thing and walk out of there is another issue, but I hope we'll be fine (some of us have EU passports). Anybody having experience with these things, or even a better suggestion? Thanks for your advice Philipp

That's a better choice. Thanks, Chris :-) (The download link in the announcement linked to that one: http://www.codeproject.com/script/Associate/Images/CodeProjectAssociate_200.png[^].) Minor thing: The top level cropping may have been a bit too harsh - the blurring on the top appears to have been chopped off.

Hi Pete I'm currently running it through Photoshop - guess pretty much every one who owns a blog with background other than white will have to run through this task - so why not offer a proper logo in the first place? It's not a critical thing, but still, it takes time and is causes a loss of quality as the logo has nicely blurred edges. And as a spoiled WPF guy, I sure do like my stuff pretty :) Cheers, Philipp

I'm not sure whether this is the appropriate forum, but I thought I'd rather post this before this author's ratings are off to a *really* bad start. Both downloads seem to be broken so one should probably unpublish it until the issue is fixed: WPF/xaml NotifyIcon and Taskbar popup window[^] Cheers, Philipp

My guess is they are just are proud of their work. And they should be, even if it sucks - after all, it tells something about being passionate. That they are borderline self-confident to the point of being suicidal is another story, however ;)

They'll downvote once, which is less significant (other than 4-5 downvotes in a row). I think downvotes are a rather spontaneous thing and your typical downvoters won't have created a pool of accounts in advance by the time they write their next article. Well besides the pathological ones, maybe...
