I am seeking MP3 player suggestions; something under $20-30 dollars. Hopefully in 8gb range. Something that works, but I won't care if it's broken easily. (camping trip)

Yes, I did some development with the 2003 version, back when the C++/CLI syntax was a little odd. Management wants C# solutions, so that's where I am right now. I have Googled some of the commercial libraries out there but have no real world experience with them....

I did some TAPI development 6-7 years ago with C++ using some open source libraries at a previous company. These were simple applications for an in-house project. I am now being asked to recommend commercial libraries for developing a C# solution using TAPI. Unfortunately I have very little information at this time what the applications will be, so I am looking for broad support for managed code development of telephony and conferencing solutions development. I am familiar with most of the buzz words, but my experience was with simple applications. It seems that development of a managed code solution is mandated, whether I suggest it or not, so I am looking for a rock-solid shim between a managed application and the various Windows APIs. Any advice is appreciated.

A foreign legion fort got a new commanding officer. After a couple of weeks in the desert he was missing female company. He called over his sergeant and asked what the men did when they wanted sex. "We have a camel" replied the sergeant. "That's absolutely disgusting" said the commanding officer, "take the camel out and shoot it". The sergeant protested that the men might mutiny, but the commanding officer was adamant. The sergeant took the camel out into the desert. But he could not bring himself to shoot it, so he tied it to a handy shrub which grew nearby, fired his rifle in the air and went back to the fort. That night he went out under cover of darkness, brought the camel back to the fort and hid it in the basement. After a few more weeks the commanding officer is feeling a stirring in his loins and calls the sergeant into his office. "Did you really shoot the camel?" He asks. "Yessir, I shot the camel as ordered" replies the sergeant. "Come on sergeant, we're all men of the world and I won't discipline you" says the commanding officer "I don't think you actually shot something so important to the men's morale, where is it?" "oh alright sir, it's in the basement" says the sergeant. "Lead me to it", says the commanding officer. So down to the basement they go, and as he opens the door the commanding officer is loosening his trouser belt. "That'll be all" he says to the sergeant. There follow great sounds of commotion, and the camel bellowing deafeningly. A few minutes later the commanding officer re-appears. "Sergeant, that was one of the worst experiences of my life, I'm thoroughly ashamed of myself" he says "Do all the men really get sexual gratification with the camel?". "Not really sir", says the sergeant. "They usually ride it to the whore-house in Cairo."

Get a quality multi-tool and a decent fixed blade (not a rambo knife). No doubled edged knives. No junk multi-tools. Make sure the multi-tools handles are rounded and reliable! I like the leathermans myself. Cut wood with a knife? No way... not worth it. Make sure you know how to sharpen the blades, and always ask yourself before you use the knife(s) on something, do I have to use my knife on this? If you can't get at the fixed blade knife with either hand and draw it while holding onto something else, then pass it up. The sheath is just as important as the blade. After time, get a quality fixed blade. I never get expensive ones, because some idiot always borrows it and screws it up. My Da aways carried 3 knives. One big knife for emergency use upside down in the small of his back (special rig) that he could reach with either hand. One skinning blade, and a small pocket knife. We always carried a hand axe, pliers and a camp saw. (actually I did) Hand axe, pliers and camp saw were for skinning deer etc. I carried a Buck Hunter Model 110 through 2 wars until my kid lost it. Decent kinfe if cared for. Most knives of that price range are okay. No knife is magic though. BTW, used many knives. But this is like gold.http://www.elinemerchandising.com/41372.html[^] -- modified at 20:58 Monday 25th June, 2007

Yea, I was in the Military. Spices are always a good thing! Seriously, the things I missed the most were odd things you normally might not normally need but liked. Toothpicks, dental floss, spices, stuff any Wal-Mart has, but a military PX didn't carry. I carried a full electronics repair kit with me and our mechanic used it to fix lots of trucks with electrical problems. I also carried a haircut kit and man was that useful. Ya gotta remember that where I was, things hadn't been established for long. Watch batteries, eye-glass kits, weird stuff like that was precious. I have no idea what they need over there nowadays.

We picked up 20 kilos of Camel meat for a barbeque 60 miles south of Kuwait, at a place called Logistical Base Bastogne. The meat was somewhat tough, but that was mostly because we insisted that the meat be fresh. (No refrigeration in the town) We cooked the **** out of it and that probably made it tougher. It tasted a lot like beef, and the cuts had some gristle as well. Properly seasoned and prepared, (Lots of Bar-B-Que Sauce, etc) Camel is pretty tasty. MRE's can't compare. When visiting foreign lands in the back of a Blackhawk, Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco is a must. Det cord and Parachute cord come in handy as well. smiles...

Well... I wouldn't mind, but the platform is designated, so I guess the development tools will be as well. They (Management) haven't said who, what, when , where, how, why, yada yada yada. It seems like it's going to be a solution in a box. Even the platform may change from Linux to Free BSD.
