When you have a development server all new features will be installed there first and after they work fine, they'll finde their way to the production server. So the except for the content, the features are the same. If you need the same content, you can clone the production server instead of installing a development server, make backups from the production server and restore them to the development server. Without seeing what you are actually doing there isn't much advice I can offer except make sure you have gone through the article completed and followed all of the steps. Another resource that may here is here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910442[^]. Otherwise, there is a great deal of documentation out there for this technique, it is not specific to SharePoint, it is ASP.NET No comment

i don´t know what you have in mind but if you trigger a SP to add data to one table, edit in that SP a if/else statement that counts the table records and; 1) add a record or 2) the display a error info message to the user. ;P

The problem of generating non-repeating 6-digit numbers that appear random can be solved with cyclic groups: Start with any 6-digit number. This is your first key. Pick a random prime number (any will work, but a 6-digit prime between 300000 and 700000 would be best). Every time you add the prime number to the key (and truncate to six digits), you get the next key. The beauty of this approach is that you'll go through EVERY 6-digit number before it repeats.
