Well, those of us who earned our wings working 40 years ago with Commodore's digital serial protocol (IEC Bus), we don't find USB's spec weird at all. Next! :-D

"Goodness" fell more in an eye of the beholder scenario. Compatibility between platforms wasn't a mandate so every competitors offering had their own engineering go wild at times. The Commodore line was really good at graphics and sound. Lots of games took advantage of that. Tandy CoCos were not good on graphics and sound as the Commodire but flew circles around many others with its BASIC... add an RTOS (Microware's OS9) and the CoCo blew everybody else on the computing prowess department no contest. Apple was... well, Apple! The Woz in all effect pre-Mac days  Atari was also very good on graphics, somewhat good on sound. A you-can't-lose way to go on the 8 bits machines line. The Atari ST upped the stakes later on but by then everybody was on IBM mode. Texas Instuments TI 99/4A its an oddity but an interesting one, half way in graphics and sound capabilities, not too good on its BASIC and expansion capabilities. Of all these I have a few, still work on them, repair, retrofit and soup up where possible. It's a fun way to deflate from the day to day modern hardware and software woes. I started late on the Commodore, my start was with Tandy's TRS-80 line and the Color Computer series. My latest addition is a replica I assembled of the Jupiter Ace.

Apple III have one. First thing to check is the power supply, on tech this vintage the electrolytic filter capacitors are the first things to go: they will either open circuit or short out, neither is good for the electrons in there. If the power supply passes the test then things get a bit more interesting - more symptoms on "not functioning" will be needed :-\

I Know You - Halo Wars 2Trailer looks awesome. But I am not buying that. Halo 5 has been the last installment on any expenditures into the Halo franchise, 343 Industries has done a regretable and pitiful job at keeping up with the true nature of the Halo universe. Now its like playing CoD with Halo skins on characters and weapons X|

What would be the first thing you do at the office when back from a 2 week vacation?
Open a bunch of Remote Admin sessions, spread lovingly on all available monitors, scribble something on a piece of paper... sip on the coffee... space out for about an hour or so

Superbowl Sunday... meh...With Superbowl Sunday set in motion, I thought it a good time to post some interesting stats: 50: The Superbowl I will not be watching. 2: The number of teams about whom I don't need to know anything. 136: The amount of dollars that Frito Lay and Anheuser Busch will not be getting from me. 0: Total number of times I will scream WOOOOOO at my television. 1/2: The point of the game at which time a "show," which I will not see, is most likely to air. 52: Approximate number of Sundays I will have spent not watching the Superbowl by the end of this calendar year. 14: Average number of people who will take offense to this entire post. 14: Number of people who should lighten up and realize it's just a joke. Which ironically is how I've always felt about getting drunk on watery domestic beer and yelling WOOOOO at a television. And finally, 15,000,000+: Number of football fans who, even though I never could understand or relate to the fascination with the game, I hope have a very safe and enjoyable day. If anyone needs me, I'll be off the grid(iron). -- Stolen from a friend of mine awesome metal singer. Gives a meh about the NFL. Friends
