I don't know if the return value actually is passed on the stack or in a register, but either way that operation surely is thread safe, as both the stack and the register state is local to the thread. If another thread is executing the same code simultaneously, it will have it's own stack and registers. --- b { font-weight: normal; }

I'm currently building a large scale web app and we had this discussion some time ago. Our targeted clients are young, wealthy (:-O) and its a portal-type of application with large amounts of information on almost every page. We decided to start out with 1024*768. I believe it's a question of effort. If its close to impossible to design for 800*600, leave it. If not, there is no reason to not support lower resolutions. regards! /matthias I love deadlines. Odd, i get something similar on XP now and again. I'll be in the debugger, and try to open up an explorer window (not IE, just explorer)... nada. I hit run, and everything wakes up. I've been chalking it down to an explorer resource being used somewhere in my app, and unluckily behing held when all threads are suspended by the debugger... but who knows? I use the MSHTML control in my app, so maybe there's a connection... :suss: Shog9 I'm not the Jack of Diamonds... I'm not the six of spades. I don't know what you thought; I'm not your astronaut...

I finally tried uninstalling IE6 and re-installing IE6. Now my debuggers work, but the startup page throws script errors. Arrgggghh!! Robert

I post here to try to be helpful, because I want to, because I like to. I don't really care that much about thanks - although it is nice. To be brutally honest, the best part of getting a "thanks that worked great" is the public albeit very minor ego massage. LOL. I hate it when I don't get that, LOL. But seriously, well more seriously anyway .... I post a question after I've looked at the MSDN, search a forum, and just can't seem to get what I need. I think usually the people who follow up are the ones who've actually made an effort already to solve their own problem. I guess what bugs me about it is that I think most don't bother, but I do, so I would like to see the followups not just to mu posts but to other people's posts too, because I actually look first. :-) Robert

Thanks for the input. I had already considered spawning a second thread but instead I kept reading the SDK info on message loops and thinking "Surely this cannot be as difficult as I am making it". So I went with your second suggestion. I just call a wrapper function that spawns the thread and goes into a WaitForSingleObject state to suspend the main execution until the user dismisses the messagebox. Works great! Thanks, Robert
