I have used the Office 2010 version from the MSDN set of CDs when i had the Ultimate(?) version of VS many moons ago. Avoided any updates since then.....

  • I discovered a time machine
    S stoneyowl2

Well, at least I know what mine is: NASH. If you look it up, the effects of ammonia on the brain can be drastic. And, the only way to remove the ammonia apparently, is via the (ahem) BM movements - at least 3 a day. So one of my medicines is a prescription strength laxative, taken every 4 hours. The other one is a medicine that is so expensive it costs me with insurance, over $2000 a day. I get that from a doctor friend in Ecuador for $400 for 6 months supply.

  • I discovered a time machine
    S stoneyowl2

I just got out of the hospital after 4 days (medical condition occasionally causes me to get a little crazy), and I think I discovered a time machine. I totally lost track of time because they were taking blood every 4 hours, getting vitals at all hours, and shoving pills at me 24 hours a day. I never got more than 4 hours sleep a day. Due to this, I felt that I was there for over a week - turns out it was only 4 days.

  • Who cares?
    S stoneyowl2

OGs post earlier today about black holes has triggered another internal (and this time external) cry of 'WHO CARES?' I see paleontologists spending enormous amounts of time and money trying to trace the minute evolutions of fossilized remains; astronomers doing the same for stars long gone in time and space; and mathematicians trying to solve conundrums and speculations decades old - and the best I can come up with some times is 'WHO CARES?' I am not interested in the excruciating details of the path evolution took (and the dead ends) to get where we are today, nor am I greatly concerned with the methods used to fold n-space planes into n-1 graphs. So, I will now put on my flame retardant undies and stand defiant in the face of the washed public who read the Scientific American, the online magazines, etc.

On my annual two week 'get away from all the crazy people' hike in the Talkeetna mountains, managed to cut my finger to the bone with a camp axe  . Sewed it up with 1 lb fly line and copious amounts of Jim Beam (anesthetic and sterilizer, all in one!) Then walked out to civilization to get it fixed by a real doctor, who looked at it and told me come back in a week to take the fly line out.

Can't order them, they are all too good... Anything by Thorne Smith, particularly "Night Life of the Gods" and "the Stray Lamb". Little ones, anyway. I am having solar panels installed, which will provide energy around 130% of my largest electric bill utility bill. The federal solar energy credits provides a 'payback' at the end of the year of all the energy I generate in excess and a fixed bill for the night, when the solar does not provide power. Will look at battery backup for night use after a few months of use, to get a feel for battery banks sizing and cost
