I mean _absolutely_ nothing, just like the error messages you posted meant nothing. I was just mocking about that "obvious" number; you shouldn't take that seriously. But _if_ I had intended a deeper meaning with the sentence you just quoted, it would be this: There are some people out there who are writing code just like this "obvious error message". When it comes down to maintenance, no one else could handle that kind of bullsh... horse dung. That's active job security, right there! :-\ So, whenever you stumble upon some messages like these, rest assured: There's a dude with a water tight career. He's roared up to a position where his employer is taking crap like that from him, because he couldn't let him go. But that's just a interpretation of what I wrote. Hell, if I know what I was thinking all the time, I would at least be a miner god. Or totally crazy. Better not find out.

It's the verb form of 80040154, simple past. like talk - talked. Simple, isn't it? And also quite obvious, as you've already stated when you first posted that error message here.

Well, what were they thinking? Something like this, maybe: "Yeah, this program is so hot, it will hit them the face... right after it surprisingly started, which will not happen in the next 3 centuries. My, that _will_ be a surprise..." "Oh my dear! The Hardware is not yet warmed up, I need a pause before the final initialization. Let's just copy-paste some example over!" "Heehehe, hohohooho, muhahahaha!" "Braaaaaains!"

Hmmm... I use to write that the same way I write read/write-Properties. But, hey, technically, from an using point of view, it is just like a constant: You can't write it. But it may be changing, depending on other properties.

Btw, what's the story with CONST_HAVING_UNDERSCORES_AND_CAPITOLS?
I am sure it had a good reason way back when, but I fail to see it now :)

Quite simply: Every time you see a VARIABLE_IN_CAPITOLS_AND_UNDERSCORES in the code, you simply KNOW that this is a constant and you can spare yourself the effort of trying to change it. Sure, the compiler might warn you about it, depending on your IDE - but for very long codes, you might have to look up the declaration of the variable to see it is a constant. So - Capitols, for CONSTANTS. The underscore is just there because you can't use CamelCase while using capitols only.

Yeah, but Windows took that one just one step further... I recall seeing the BSOD on my friend's computer, and I think it was Win95. It just read: "It seems you have not plugged in a monitor. Please plug in a monitor and press a key to continue." In fact, pressing a key wouldn't have done anything, but what has been troubling me for all this years now: HOW did the programmer meant this message - if it's conditions were really met - would be transported to the user? Magic Crystal Ball? Needless to say, _we_ saw the message because there _was_ a monitor plugged in.

In the end it's their money they are wasting. But the progress I make on my own projects over a weekend is overwelming when compared to fumbling around with Eclipse all week long.

Which leads us to one question: What are you using for Java? I'm thinking about playing around with Java (after some crucial tests in october; those come first), and I've been told that one should use Eclipse (especially if you want to develop something for android). But I thought that - just maybe - I could use my good old friend, vim. The only thing I'm missing is something like "IntelliSense", that's really a cool feature.

Well, personally, I can't complain about this week... my wife gave birth to our second son on thursday, and I stood by her side in the operations room, dressed in bla...pardon, in green. (Those medical suits are making you feel kinda dumb, at least that's what I felt.) On the downside: We had a blackout this evening, and I had to use a kitchen torch to boil some water for my oldest son's good-night-milk. McGyver would have used a bubble gum, but I couldn't remember how to produce heat with it. Well, I never actually came around to that that Cremé Brulée which was the initial reason to buy that kitchen torch, but, well - it has served a good purpose well!

Naaah, that can't be right: K'town is too close to the Saarland, and the language up there is all mixed up. (Around K'town, they are really refering to girls not as "she", but as "it" - which _is_ the influence from the Saarland.) That doesn't count, really.

I once visited the Glenmorangie distillery in Tain - that was a fun trip, especially sticking my head in one of the tanks and taking a deep breath... To my defense, I heard a voice in my head that made me do it. Actually, that voice belonged to Moira, our guide on the tour. Since I were the only one crazy enough to really do that, I earned myself a special bonus: At the end of the tour, when we were all getting a free dram, I were the only one who did not get the standard 8 yrs, but instead I was given a dram of the good stuff (18 yrs). Ahhhh, 'twas a pleasure. Those were the times, my friends...

Very subtle, my friend, but I think it will only be effective if said body belonged to the working staff - as long as I keep piling up management corpses, no one will ever notice (because the work will still get done - hmmmm, maybe a little more efficient, though).
