If I get a flat tire and need IT to come fix or if I issue a ticket at lunch for a pizza it might be cheaper for them to go pick it up for me. GPS might be valuable in some cases yes.

You can easily build one with MS access. use a hdr table and detail table to store issue status. Access can maintain form/subform relationship. Reg, Sankar

An good recommendations for an open source / free issue tracking system? Windows based is our IT's preference.

I'd recommend Trac. It's based on Python. There's a bit of config required but it's a very good system. You can get it here: http://trac.edgewall.org/[^]

Trac is a free, open source enhanced wiki and issue tracking system for software development projects and it fits the bill. It's a bit of a pain in the ass to install, but once you've managed to get it installed it works well: http://trac.edgewall.org/[^]

It's turtles all the way down.

If you haven't had a look at Spiceworks, you may want to check it out. www.spiceworks.com

I'm looking for an issue tracking system for IT not for a bug tracking system for development. We have TestTrack for bugs.

We use TestTrack extensively for issue tracking, bug tracking, enhancement requests, et al... More than 500,000 tracked :-) Does it not work for you for issues? aarfb

As an IT manager a couple of years ago, I bought TrackIT (www.NumaraSoftware.com) and used it to track company-wide issues. They may have a free version. Not sure. You may want to look at BugZilla (http://www.bugzilla.org). Its name implies it is for tracking software defects, but you can use it to track IT issues just as well.

Trac - open source and runs just about anywhere. It might be worth a look. http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracOnWindows[^]

TestTrack can be used for any kind of workflow/issue tracking. I'm trying to push for its use by manufacturing, sales and the RMA group.

It gets very expensive though. I think we spent 10K+ just for our dev team.
