From German Website spiegel.de[^] Own spring gun kills German-Turkish pensioner couple Istanbul - A gardener discovered the bodies: in a cottage area in western Turkey Edremit a 75-year-old woman and her five years older man died. The Turkish newspapers reported on Tuesday. Apparently the couple had forgotten on arrival in her house, turn off the automatic firing system. The man was hit by five bullets, his wife of three. Both were killed instantly. The former mechanical engineer had installed the system to ward off burglars in the house, it said in the reports. Accordingly, the entering of a doormat outside the front door activated an electrical pulse that triggered shots from a rifle above the door installed. With a switch, the system could be disabled, but the couple have obviously forgotten this. Most of the time of the year the couple have spent in Germany and was only in the summer months in Turkey come. The newspaper reports that the retired couple had in the past because of the spring gun several times argued with neighbors. That's definitely worth a nomination. Torsten

The whole idea is stupid. Not everyone who happens to step onto your doormat automatically is a criminal. And I thought that living in a fort (plus moat and alligators) and shooting at sight were only common in Texas.

So long as they have no offspring, I don't see why age should preclude them from entry.

It may be fine for him. He is still able to breed, but she would already be out of the gene pool through the actions of the menopause.

Thank you for that clarification, I had been wondering why there weren't more 80-year-old mothers.

At 75/80 years of age, children are probably no longer a viable option, so Darwin is cheated once again by circumstances.
