Given that they were in their 70's I think the Darwin award does not apply. This may just be a "senior moment."

It may be fine for him. He is still able to breed, but she would already be out of the gene pool through the actions of the menopause.

Thank you for that clarification, I had been wondering why there weren't more 80-year-old mothers.

At 75/80 years of age, children are probably no longer a viable option, so Darwin is cheated once again by circumstances.
