Question: If out of every 200 customers in your database you had 3 with the same GUID serving as a unique identifier for their record and you knew those 3 lived in the same general area would you feel comfortable sending out monthly invoices? I know when it comes to a simple light bill that wouldn't be acceptable. It shouldn't be acceptable as evidence for murder, either. Don't get me wrong, I like to see a murderer go down hard - what I don't like is investigators that are too clever. I think the standard for evidence should be higher. I'd hate to see someone go to jail because they happen to have the wrong cat.

Yeah, but half the time, if you present this kind of evidence to the suspect, they 'fess up (if they did it, of course).

I've heard of a dog DNA database used to identify owners of dogs which poop and don't get picked up.
