Well, I've seen "prolly" on many places, and on chats, so it is not something that belongs to CP only. I dunno, but prolly I'm not gonna like tis word  Philip Patrick Web-site: www.stpworks.com "Two beer or not two beer?" Shakesbeer

Certainly real estate prices can be pretty daunting to home buyers, especially all the first time buyers. I live in a quiet, quaint little town of Bowmanville, Ontario and it stuns me that houses in our neighbourhood sell in excess $225K CAD ($170K USD). Coincidentally, I just received my tax bill yesterday for a cottage property my wife and I own. The township values it at $150K for assesment purposes. Not a bad investment, considering we bought it for $22K in 1985. :-O Chris Meech "what makes CP different is the people and sense of community, things people will only discover if they join up and join in." Tax assessments don't seem to have anything to do with the market value. I'd consider you lucky, you don't have to may as much tax on it! :-D "When a man sits with a pretty girl for an hour, it seems like a minute. I live in Houston. Yes, it's bloody hot in Texas, specially during summer. You have to have AC on your house. The temperature can get up to 100. Otherwise, it is a nice place to live, people here are nice, the living expense is low, the housing price is really reasonable.

I visited a buddy up on Long Island, NY. about 30 min. from Manhattan, and he rents a house thats about 1800-2000 ft2, and virtually no yard. It's in some disrepair, and goes for about $450-500K. In defense of Nish: 'Prolly' - Literally wrong, but phonetically correct (in terms of English street slang). I have often when writing to close friends, use phonetic or SMS spelling instead of the 'correct' Queen's English. I know what i'm on about, they know what i'm on about, no harm done.

You use either a fraction of an acre, or square feet. Surveying is done by marking off square miles of land, called sections. One acre is 1/640 of a section, or 43,560 square feet. City lots are usually between 5,000 and 7,000 square feet.

Thanks for the info Rog. I guess some Indian fellow here might know what the sub unit for acre is in India :-) I hope it's not a Trivandrum-originated non-word :suss: Nish

I moved from San Diego (where prices are comparable to those in L.A.) to Texas, and bought a 2200 sqft house on 3/4 acre for less than $109,000. ------- signature starts "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001 "You won't like me when I'm angry..." - Dr. Bruce Banner Please review the Legal Disclaimer in my bio. ------- signature ends

Welcome back to the sane world! In my area, my house is 2200 sq. ft. on about 1/3 acre of land (80x200 lot size) and I had the contractor build an oriental garden in the lot. My kitchen was custom designed to give me the most cooking space (I do alot of gourmet cooking) and our master bedroom was designed around our bedroom set (which is huge). The kitchen and master open out to a large wooden deck and paths leads back to a 12x30 pond and waterfall. It was built for us for $180,000. I suppose in LA they'd want a cool mil for this. :-) _____________________________________________ The world is a dangerous place.
