Canadians awarded gold medals

Please don't start another cold war here. Both Canadian and Russian skaters did well. None of them deserved this scandal, and they are not guilty for all this judgement crap. I think giving them both gold medals was a wise decision. How do you know that they KNEW they didn't deserve the gold? I don't think at this level of competition anybody goes into such feelings - "oh well, we didn't really deserve it". They just fight. Vagif Abilov COM+/ATL/MFC Developer Oslo, Norway

I never claimed that the russians were responsible, but anyone with havlf a brain and fairly normal vision could see that they were waiting for the other shoe to drop. Oh come the f*ck on - she was looking at the canadians like she wanted to tell them that she was just as flabbergasted as everyone else was, and the guy was making facial expressions like "i can't believe we got away with this". I still have the tape of the whole thing if you'd like to review it. "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001

They should have made the russions and the canadians swap medals, and then brought the offending judge(s) out onto center ice and put a bullet in her/their pointed little head(s). Another thing - the russians KNEW they didn't deserve the gold, and you could tell by the way they were reacting on the podium. Maybe the canadian athletes would have made a stronger statement if they had all just left the games en masse. Nah, bullet in the head, and then leave the rotting corpse in the middle of the rink so that every time a skater passes it, the judges are reminded not to screw up anymore. New idea - at the NEXT Olympic Games, put her head on a pike and put it at the entrnce to the olympic village. There have been times in the past when (for example) two downhill skiers tied with the same 2:26.44 time (again for example). The resolution of the timer is only hundreths of a second, so there is no way to determine who won. Also, they can't have them ski again because then you could blame any difference on exhaustion from the previous race, conditions, etc. Because of this, they have (a few times), given out dual gold medals and not given a bronze. This has ocurred with the silver as well. I'm not sure about the bronze. Brigg Thorp Software Engineer Timex Corporation
IMHO, any sport worthy of the name should have some means of breaking a tie. There should be a winner, dammit! (I even take exception in College football (American) when a coach ends the game with a tieing field goal. What a wuss. There should be a rule that in the event of a tie, the first team to reach that score is the winner. ) "Thank you, thank you very much" Elvis.

Well, it looks like the IOC awarded the Canadian pairs skaters the gold medal. I guess the Russians got to keep theirs as well. Good for both of them...this was a messy situation. This got me thinking...how many gold medals are produced for the Olympics? I assume there is a fixed number of them, for situations when people tie for the gold. But, what if the IOC orders too many of them. What happens to the remaining gold medals? Just a thought. Brigg Thorp Software Engineer Timex Corporation
Next thing you know, there'll be something on the news about one of the oldest judges died while having sex with one of the female skaters. Finally it will come out that Michelle Kwan was found crouching at the side of the bed, holding a whip and with one wrist hand-cufed to the deceased's ankle, muttering something in half english and half taikwanese about how she was THIS CLOSE to getting a gold medal when the old bastard croaked. No. Sometimes I include farm animals in my stories. Besides that, topics fall of the visible end of the list so fast that you have to take every opportunity to make an impression. I can tell that you want to join my fan club (that would be, like, four or five people), so I guess that means I have to set up a web site for it. Okay, I can hang with that, but only if we also have archers firing onto the ice from the cheap seats, too. Goats. (obligatory offensive reference to farm animals) "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001

My list of people we should shoot on the spot goes something like this: - Illegal aliens caught crossing our borders without the proper paerwork - People caught driving drunk - People caught raping (1st offense), murdering (1st offense), sexual child abuse (1st offense), armed robbery (first offense), - Religious fanatics that have the nerve to sell their hypocritical bullshit door-to-door. - People who don't use their damn turn signals. - The guy who tailgated me all the way home yesterday. - The people responsible for "Survivor", and all the copycat shows that seem to spring unrestrained from Hollywood's bunghole. - Anyone that thinks COM is easy to code. The list goes on, but I actually start naming individuals, so it's probably a good idea to stop where we are. :) I don't think I'm crazy at all, and all of my invisible friends seem to agree with me (except for Gary, but I think he's gay, so if I could, I'd shoot him too). OMG!!! It's harsh but at the same time you're kinda right. Why don't we add this to your list: - People on welfare when they could work (lazy SOBs). I wouldn't kill them, but at least don't give 'em money for beer and cigarettes! Give' em food stamps for milk and bread. And they'd have to work too (pick up garbage in the streets, etc...) Anyway, I'm getting off topic here, but you and I connect on so many ways! ;) --------------- http://www.edovia.com

Yeah, but I'd make double-damn sure they didn't rub those medals on their bungholes before I bought them. :) "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001
Man... You are a little odd did you know that? Rubbing Silver Medals with your bung hole eh? What the hell prompted you to say that?

Yeah, they thnk I'm wound so tight that I could generate my own electric field. My invisible friends, of course, do not totally agree with that assessment. "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001
